“Betty! Betty, come quick, come listen to the radio! They’re sayin’ we’ve been attacked!”
Betty Parker, fifteen-years-old and auburn hair wound up tightly in pin curls, lifted her head from the magazine she’d been reading. She pressed her lips into a frown, glancing back down at the fashion article for a moment before tossing it aside and rising to her feet. Jack, her younger brother, stood at the door, eyes wild with childish delight. He clapped his hands together with enthusiasm and ran forward to grab her arm.
