It had survived things that no mug should have had to endure.

It had been dropped off cliffs, plunged into radioactive water, used to hold questionable substances and once travelled several hundred kilometres after Pilot tied a helium balloon to it. It had been thrown at Snippy countless times. It had suffered the indignity of being sat on by Engie after the Captain left it lying on a chair.

It had never been washed in its life.

But in the end, all it took was one little nudge, and the mug – the great, glorious mug – was reduced to a few shards of broken ceramic and a spatter of sad-looking tea.

Just Think About It
This place, where I've been for as long as I can remember, is where I live. It's magical really - and I don't mean that figuratively. This house feels so very much alive, or at least I think that. I feel as if I'm surrounded by its entity, but not in a bad or watchful way. It feels as if it's trying to blanket you in a nurturing atmosphere. At times I could swear I see the walls move, or lights adjust when one of us enters a room, little things like that.

I don't remember even going to sleep; I thought to myself, come to think of it, I don't remember even coming home. I closed my eyes tight and tired to rack my brain. Come on, where was I last? The following few weeks sucked. I mean really sucked. We arranged interviews with as many of Carter's ex-girlfriends as we could sniff out. Melissa Burnham was happy to help out with names but it was obvious she was disappointed that no progress had been made since I'd last seen her. That didn't help me feel any better.

We didn't learn anything from the exes. We recorded all of the interviews and passed the videos onto L, but he concluded the same. We still scheduled periodic meetings after each new interview. Dear Diary,
Today is my birthday and my loving husband bought me a wonderful gift - you. I guess after we found all of my old diaries stored in the attic, he knew I would love to have a new one. She rises to her feet as he nears on horseback, her tiny frame hunched over, a crooked wooden cane clutched in her weathered hand.

"Won't you buy a rose, my lord?" She asks, her voice a low cackle that crawls over his skin.

He glares down into her white eyes, the eyes of a blind woman, and the stench of sickness reaches his nose. Her hood falls back from her face, revealing her blistered lips and her ashen skin, marred with the spots of disease.
