I was not her father. I had entered her life when she was two years old, and she called me Daddy since she never knew her real father. Her mother's death two years ago made me the sole, living parent of an eleven-year-old, and I never felt like I was the right person for the job.
"What do you mean, Asrin?"
"Mom always said that when puberty started I would be the swan that emerged from the ugly duckling. She said I would be able to fly gracefully towards my dreams. But, I don't feel it."
As much of a woman as she was becoming, she was still a child. I wanted to answer her question, but I really had a hard time discussing her blossoming womanhood in the middle of a laundromat. Her pretty eyes were pleading with me, but I told her we'd talk later.
Janet had told Asrin a lot of things before she succumbed to the cancer. The last week or so of Janet's life were morphine-induced fantasy, I think.
Janet and I had met during c

“Zhere’s notzhing to do!!!” Gilbert complained loudly to his companions as Francis read and Antonio sucked on a lollipop while doodling on the back of a blank report.
“I don’t know what to tell you mon ami.” Francis replied running a hand through his silky blonde hair.
He, however; glanced over to see Antonio not listening since he was totally enthralled in his drawing. After raising an eyebrow Francis asked, “What are you drawing zhere?”
The tanned male looked up and grinned cheekily. “Hahaha I was drawing myself rescuing a chica, that would be fun would it not?” The in a sudde

It had seemed nice to get out of my parents’ house, out of that tiny sleepy village, and with my job at a local bakery I was able to comfortably fund a little place out in town for myself. Well, maybe not all to myself, but with some flat mates. So I looked through papers, visited a few apartments, saw some horrible things, continued to look. Then I came here.
The flat was a beautiful place, with high ceilings and arches and double doors and big, tall windows, a beautiful big kitchen and gorgeous rooms.
I immediately wanted this apartment, even after first meeting the only other inhabitant, Selena. During the brief interview she seeme

On the outside, people couldn't see how much she wanted to make herself bleed across her carpet. They couldn't see the stains of her tears on her sleeves or the mascara streaks down her cheeks when she was alone. She carved lines into her skin, marking all the times she's felt alone, depressed, anguished, wronged, or helpless and cried into the blood until they ran purple.
She was pathetic, weak, and foolish; that's why she did this to herself - she was a coward, afraid of the real world. She locked herself within her own mind from the outside and refused to slide the only key inside through the small sliver underneath the door so someone, a

No alarm bells ringing, no automated dowsing of water.
He’d woken up, coughing and spluttering, to find his room thick with the acrid smog slowly creeping in from underneath his door.
There was a moment of confusion where he didn’t know what was going on, whether he was dreaming or just seeing things, until he tuned into the sound of crackling and spitting coming from all around him.
Despite the coughing, the sound and the smell, he didn’t want to believe what was happening. Surely the house, his home for the past twenty years, couldn’t be on fire.
But it was. And for some reason the smoke alarms hadn’t gone off, and the sprinklers, set in place to safeguard the old wooden building, weren’t functioning.
Knowing he couldn’t just sit there in bed, Isaac snatched his glasses up from his bedside table and jammed them onto his face, bringing the smoke around him into focus. Though, given the density,

she who eats the light, he who commands the deadThe queen of the dead waits vigilantly for her lord on his bone-erected throne. She smiles, hooking her legs over the arm of the throne, and simply wills time to move quicker. "Tora, dear, don't worry, Mama will be home soon," Magnolia crooned into the phone, toying with the silver spoon that stuck out of her bowl of curry.
Across from her sat Cedric, her date. Indian was the restaurant for tonight, since the woman insisted on devouring something spicy. And to such a pretty face, Cedric honestly couldn't say no.
One would have to wonder how he even snagged such a beautiful woman; while Cedric was by no means ugly, he certainly didn't match up with the gorgeous vixen known as Magnolia.
Cedric watched in silent yet jealous awe as she spooned another mouthful of her soup, licking her cherry

"You must understand, Clement, apologizing does not return the seven hundred dollars lost for smashing that hard drive," Magnolia said slowly, drawling her words so that her subordinate heard every last syllable.
Her dark eyes narrowed as Clement swallowed and nervously glanced around the room. Within Magnolia's soundproof office, standing next to her desk with the door closed felt like being in a cage with a tiger. Although she decorated her office with pictures and potted plants, Clement still felt trapped. The large window behind Magnolia's desk offered no reassurance, even if it provided the two with a view of th

The flames twirled, twisted and curled in a fiery dance. Blazing horses ran across the red plains. Phoenixes soared through the lapping inferno. Dragons rose upon the crimson waves. A story being told in every second.
The crackling filled my ears and the burnt smell of seared lumber lingered near my nostrils.
It smiled at me, offering me a safe and secure hearth. Its gleaming arms beckoned, presenting protection. These were the characteristics of a sheltered haven.

Andrea's Roommate (Intro)"Wow, now this... This is an apartment!" Andrea did a faux wolf- whistle as she surveyed her new apartment, which, up until now, she had no idea how it looked. For most college Juniors, this would have been a bit of a warning sign, but, unfortunately for Andrea, she had spent most of the summer procrastinating, which lead to her being in some what of dire straits when it came to a roommate, or, to be more precise, living quarters in general. However, in a brief stroke of luck, she had managed to find someone who had posted a Craigslist ad looking for a new roommate.Andrea's Roommate (Intro)1 month ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
