"The December wind wrapped itself around the two as they briskly made their way down the crowded sidewalk. They didn't mind the cold all too much for their sheer excitement kept them warm. A mother and a son had traversed into the Inner Sanctum of the Main City to prepare for the festivities. It was the 20th, and on the 21st a world-wide celebration would ring out in glory of their leader's name and birthday. It wasn't just a celebration for him, as on the 21st everyone shared in on the gift giving and goo

You got up and stretched out, fixing you ears and collar. You jumped onto the rim of the fence and looked into the neighbor's yard. A white tom was teasing another cat. As soon as the doors closed, Viola knew she'd be lucky if she was ever given the chance to step outside them again. The sound didn't just echo throughout the tower, but appeared to signal the ending of her old life and the beginning of an entirely different one.
"You'll have to watch this one," Mrs Casket said, holding up a frail hand speckled with age. The index finger was missing. "She bites."
Viola averted her eyes, trying to ignore the ball of apprehension growing in her belly. She gazed up at the winding staircase. Her tongue felt like a strip of dried leather and it was difficult to form words around it. "How much longer until we're t

His body was sore, riddled with scarring wounds and ugly bruises. He had absolutely nothing, his home was burned to the ground, his legacy a scorned footnote on history, his people without a future, and it was his fault! His ruby colored eye hardened as a shield to hide his feelings of pain, betrayal, and hatred. He didn't know what hurt more, the pain of being beaten within an inch of his life, or the fact that his own brother had done this to him. Once again, a well done job!
A little word from the author:
So, it has been almost 3 months since I have given in to one of my favorite hobbies: role playing on messenger. I became enamored of role playing several years ago and developed two of the characters you see here, Faust and Cendre.
During an innocent discussion with Amaltheren, a friend of mine, we started playing a couple of scenarios involving Cendre and Morquendi, her character. Role playing is like smoking. Even if you stop, you always go back to it.
I enjoy role playing a lot because it gives me a little escape from the grayis

I do not understand.
Smiling is a mere false show;
Crying, the product of the eyes' foul itch;
Anger, the worthless pretence of self-justification;
Gladness, the putrid writhe of chemicals in the gut;
Happiness, the dirty concoction that poisons with despair;
Love, a weak blood organ waiting to burst.
I do not understand these idle things, empty concepts as they are.
Void, I feel nothing, and nothing is what is necessary.

I suppose she was the first girl I fell in love with because of something other than a nice pair of breasts, and therefore, the first girl I fell in love with whom I actually succeeded in asking out on a date. More than anything it was her hair, the way it was neither curly nor straight, but wavy, and in a dark and dreamy shade of red that nearly seemed black. It reached down beyond her shoulders, and I could find myself staring at the back of her head for hours during our classes, mesmerized by it. Breasts weren't half-bad either though.
And she was a nice person. At least, that was the impression I

How the Fairytale EndsI remember lying in the dark the night after we killed the troll. My bandaged side hurt like hell, and I thought maybe the arrow the monster had used had been poisoned. I shivered at the thought and pulled my cloak farther up to my chin. This left my feet, bare, of course, so I sighed heavily as I tried to bend down and cover them again. I had barely moved before he was there, pushing me back down gently and settling his own cloak over me.How the Fairytale Ends2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

"Don't worry Korra," Bolin said, gently squeezing the young Avatar's shoulders. "There was nothing you could have done."
"I should have been there Bolin! I should have stopped it! I'm the Avatar for Spirits sake," Korra replied, spinning around to face him, anguish in her eyes.
"Korra..."
"No. It was my fault. I should have been there, instead of being on a stupid date."
Feeling his eyes mist over, Bolin turned his head away from the Avatar's gaze and focussed it onto the floor. "I'm sorry you thought it was a waste of your time Avatar," He mumbled, scuffing his feet as he made his way away from her.

There should have been fire. She was definitely expecting there to be blazing red fire, tortured souls, and Cerberus foaming at the mouth. Instead as she descended, trepidation eating away at her, she was surrounded by iridescent milky light filling a void of darkness. She paused for a moment taking in the landscape. Directly ahead of her was a forest of luminously vibrant trees. Leading from the steps and through those lustr

There was Glum Rradung, the bulge-eyed sewer-midget who slithered out of water-closets and gulped down children wandering about in the dark. "How many times have you done this today?" I asked her. "Also, hello."
I know I flushed pinker than her, fully clothed in my capris and navy fingerless gloves even though it was already July-- burning for her, because she didn't seem to notice her own skin.
She smiled, asked, "Am I beautiful?"
"I don't even know you."
"Okay," she said.
"I have to go," I said.
