Kurai put his hand to Kage’s neck, trying to feel for a pulse; but there was nothing. He felt his wrist, still nothing. Kagekao was gone.

Kurai laid the body on the ground gently, and then stood up. He looked up at Scollex, his one remaining eye blazed with hatred. Scollex was silent, but then started to laugh; he laughing at his pain.

Rapidly unsheathing his claws, Kurai ran towards Scollex.

They make as much racket as the gulls, but it's the kind of noise that city people bring with them no matter where they go, corrupting such a beautiful day while they trick themselves into thinking all they want peace and quiet. To escape into the roar of the tide, I had made my way down to the high rocks on the edge of the beach where the waves crash against the sun washed boulders.
