Safe harbors come and go so swiftly,
Truly, the bane of the reckless life.
The sunset looks so fine with
The hero's silhouette tattooed across its face,
But no one knows the chill of the deep night
Without a home
Quite like the bravest strangers.

And truly, your eyes are the blackest diamonds
I've ever looked upon,
Glittering ruins of primal places where once we lay,
Counting stars and gods and sacrificing both.
My warm and conquering heretic,
Gray skies march throughout your veins,
And mine.

*** Spuren im Sand ***

Eines Nachts hatte ich einen Traum:
Ich ging am Meer entlang mit meinem Herrn.
Vor dem dunklen Nachthimmel
erstrahlten, Streiflichtern gleich,
Bilder aus meinem Leben.
Und jedes Mal sah ich zwei Fußspuren im Sand,
meine eigene und die meines Herrn.
Als das letzte Bild an meinen Augen
vorüber gezogen war, blickte ich zurück.
Ich erschrak, als ich entdeckte,
dass an vielen Stellen meines Lebensweges
nur eine Spur zu sehen war.
Und das waren gerade die schwersten
Zeiten meines Lebens.

Besorgt fragte ich den Herrn:
„Herr, als ich anfing, dir nachzufolgen,
da hast du mir versprochen,

A Midnight Meditation

I begin my journey of words, words and words-
With ‘In the Name of my Beloved God,
The most Generous and most Merciful’-
A raconteur’s most precious amulet.

I speak of my God,
In every breath of sweet air-
At the slightest sign of despair-

I speak of His Messenger-
In respectful and beautiful verses-
and in each well-guided behaviour.

I speak of His religion,
Without a hint of hesitation-
Steadfast-with an unswayed submission.

And when raised eyebrows-
Question His very existence-
I would proudly declare-

That He is eternally embedded in here-
In each life-giving pulse,
And every thumping beat,

In his eyes I see sorrow
I see strength and wisdom

The weight of the world is in his eyes
A power fills his pale hands
But with this power there comes sacrifice
To protect the ones he loves he must part with:
fear, his life, and everything dear
But to use this power he must possess
love, kindness and above all:
