By Salli Shepherd (salshep)
Do not let them see you blink,
Mother said, so I am careful to turn
away when my eyes dry out. My grip
on the brush is clumsy. Colours speck
and dazzle, slop like foam on rocks;
the teacher dabs their brilliance
from my flaking arms. Children whisper
behind starfish hands; they go to play
in the bright, hot yard but I stay in,
as Mother told me. Below the window
theres a tank of golden fish that circle,
circle, following their own reflections.
I dip my fingers in to scoop one up,
watch it flip and shine, cool in my palm,
and press my face deep into the water.

Introduction:
For times untold, the sacred forest of Baalhiam has seen bitter strife between humans and the Elf people. A high magic place, foremost sanctuary of druids and mages, the forest is home to the Elves of Nür. They are the guardians of a powerful magic taking its source at the heart of the old forest.
As human mages came to steal this magic, war broke out. The Elves closed down their borders. They concealed the pathways through Baalhiam with magical spells, driving humans away from their territory. From then on, Baalhiam became a forbidden place for foreigners. Cendre and her family are am

A little word from the author:
So, it has been almost 3 months since I have given in to one of my favorite hobbies: role playing on messenger. I became enamored of role playing several years ago and developed two of the characters you see here, Faust and Cendre.
During an innocent discussion with Amaltheren, a friend of mine, we started playing a couple of scenarios involving Cendre and Morquendi, her character. Role playing is like smoking. Even if you stop, you always go back to it.
I enjoy role playing a lot because it gives me a little escape from the grayis

In some time, at some place
In the immiscible world
What mixed our hapless worlds was
One paper plane
I slipped out of the hospital every day
Seeing you at where my dad works
Meant the world to me
Reading your letters warmed
The cockles of my heart
It made me blush. Is this what people call "love"...?
But dad said furiously
I must not see you...?
I don't understand why
Your existence is meaningful enough
For me to live
Locked in this room where the sun can't enter
I could see my future glittering
The number of tubes is increasing every day
It's hard for me to hear sounds
I can't walk like how I used to
If I acn't get out o

Hi love.
What's up?
I love you.
Watcha doing?
Ask me out.
I'm OK
I'm in a state
How are you?
Why do you like her?
I'm bored.
I wish you'd love me back
I hate homework.
I want you to call
I have to go.
I don't want to seem desperate.
Bye.
Maybe next time I'll have better luck. . .

The TranslatorMalena was born on the third of April, a heady Aries and a talented translator. She only waited for so long before she put her foot down and took charge of her destiny, riding it like a child of the sea would a dolphin. The Translator2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
She began her job with diligent care from the moment she first awakened from the drowsiness of the very young and into the slow comprehension of children. She first translated her own simple thoughts to the world in an agonized cry - 'I'm hungry! I'm hungry!' - first in the Spanish words of her parents and then repeated in the strange, native Tupi dialect of her Mestizo nanny. The dark-skinned woman had gasped in fear and tri

Of drowsy rose gardens
That spend their nights unsettled by
The echoed suffering of well-dressed musicians;
And of the little chapels where princesses
Linger, praying in silence;
And of the rustic four-post beds
That all the halfwits at the armory still use.
Oh! Your words spoke to my heart—
My heart both bored and hungry at once—and
Have awakened the sleeping:
All the lovers before you.
And they each stand up now,
In front of me in the stagnant evening,
Rising halfway out of the dream
Like a white body rises out of a black river.
Oh! The invisible rivals
That you yourself are calling forth:
These visions are the victors, unsettling
Our paled love like a river-dredging.
Between your breasts—merciful like nuns—
You try in vain to shield my brow.
You know my cruel desires
Would run me toward some distant lover,
And I know it well. Your amethyst eyes
Become full of honeyed blame
And I am saddened to death
To have no love left f

In some time, at some place
One prisoner fell for a girl
Through the barracks
Heartrendering, heartrendering
They've taken all my freedom
I was having dark days of persecution
Between you and filthy me
A big difference, big difference
I wrote a letter
And folded it into a paper plane
Praying it'd reach you through the barracks
Fly away, fly away
Oh, to be able to get away
From here someday
It's a lie~
I know it
Your existence made me feel
Like all lies could be true~
"Come here and have a talk with me"
You'd never know my agony
Watching you from here
Was a tiny hapiness for tomorrow~
Days and months passed since then

At least in my English
I think they do.
