they're just bits of paper
glued to a fragile spine
But to me they are friends
welcoming me at any time
opening up their hearts
to show me their secrets
I laugh with them
I cry with them
they've let me into
the lives of so many
people with fantastic lives
people who have grand adventures
and for a few hours
I forget
That I'm just me

BooksAh, the absolute amazing-nessBooks9 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
Of books, books, books.
Books tell stories.
Books record facts.
Books relate history
And how to make snacks.
They come in many a shape and size,
These books, books, books.
Books can be fat.
Books can be tall.
Books can be skinny,
And books can be small.
Oh, the many things you find
When you look in a book, book, book.
There are books about London.
There are books about space.
There are books about cartoons
And even how to race.
You can find a story about anything
In a book, book, book.
About a family and children,
About wizards and witches,
About sadness and sorrow,
Or about little fishes.

Books that force people to look at what they don't want to see
I read banned books
Books which cause parents to shut their hands over the eyes of their children
Books which the government don't want the masses to read
I read banned books
I read Rowling, Lee, Hurston, Morrison, Frank, and Myers
I read Steinbeck, Huxley, Paterson, Chaucer, and Orwell
I read Hinton, Fitzgerald, Bradbury, Conrad, and Carroll
I read banned books and hunger for more

i condsider books to be the most important thing in my life.
they represent a chance to escape this harsh life.
to fly off into a different world.
to feel what the people in the story feel.
to experience new things.
to learn about things.
to live another life.
so who are you to tell me that it's meaningless to read.
books are my life.
and no matter what you say.
i'll read everyday.

BooksThey take me far from here, They help me get away. They take me into worlds of magic, lands filled with terror. Land filled with wonders. They help me escape reality, they help me get away. Books, books, books. I love them. They take me to new places, they take me on adventures. They lead me through the wild, they lead me through a jungle. They take me by a sleeping dragon, and its pile of gold. Books take me many places. If you're looking to escape reality, then open a book. They'll take you far from here, and will keep you entertained. Books, books, books. oh how I love books.Books4 years ago in Free Verse More Like This

Slip headphones over your ears
Hit play and wait
It washes over you like water
Shuts out the noise
Takes you to a different place
Where the music takes on colour
And everything else disappears as your eyes slide shut
You hum along as it soothes you
Carrying all your worries away
Thoughts are nonexistent
Just the sounds that fill your head
You sit in your corner
Oblivious to the world
Not seeing the people passing by
Not hearing anything else
Just listening to the sounds running through your head
You hum once more
As you open the worn cover
Flip a page and prop it up on your knees
Still humming as your eyes fly across the pa

THE POLICY
Liam T. Dredd and Diaphanous Haze
Were married in not unusual ways.
They booked a cathedral, they made their vows,
Bought as much insurance as the state allows.
He called her Daffi, She called him Lee,
He wrote out their wills, she made them some tea.
"I'll sign the papers if you will," she said.
"A million if either of us drops dead."
"I have a confession, my dear," said he.
"Counting the others, you're Wife Number Three.
"My dear exes were strangled, drowned and shot,
They left me quite lonely, but left me a lot."
"How sad!" said Daffi with a secret smile,
"But at least your marriages were worthwhile.
"Now, my lat
