Anju's Story

It had been days, no weeks, even a month since I had last seen him. I was never good at telling time... He disappeared about a month ago, and I miss him dearly. Oh, Kafei, why did you leave me? Did you truly not want to marry me? Do you not know how I cry?

I was too busy thinking when the mailman jogged in. It was a little after one in the afternoon. He came over to my desk and surprised me, pulling out a letter. "Wh-what?" I gasped. The letter read 'To Anju, from Kafei'. The mailman said "I have delivered this to you!" like it was the best thing in the world. For me, it was. As I glance one way, I see a bitter-sweet scene.
Two townsfolk embracing their fate with sorrow.
They comfort each other, nonchalant despite the screams,

They kept running out towards the middle of the east wing and stop for a quick breath by a garden next to a large treasure chest shop. "Are—" Alton pants, "Are we— safe?" Sounds of marching, iron feet rebound on the steps behind the shop.

"Nope," said Tael nervously. Skull Kid looks around and sees a straw roof above them.

"Quick!" he jumps high onto the roof and lends a hand to Alton. The boy jumps as high as he could, barely catching his hand, and is pulled up to the roof. Stolen Away--PROTOTYPE Boots pounded down the cobblestone street as a small Deku boy crashed through the crowd. He could hear the guards, and an angry merchant, yelling.
"Stop!"
"Halt!"
"You theif!"
He clutched a sack protectively to his chest as he stumbled on a loose stone and nearly fell. He righted himself and contined running, weaving between people in a frustrating zigzag pattern. He could see town guards in front of him now. He veered to left, his floppy hat nearly falling off his wooden head as he darted down a narrow alley. He then slowed, noticing a strange purple glow emanating from an abandoned shop's window.

"Alright, everyone ready?" Kafei yells after he allows the last of the hotel guests to leave. It was an hour to midnight, almost time to let the lanterns fly. Alton walks beside Anju, both of whom are holding their lamps.

"Thanks for helping me with the candle."

"You're welcome," she smiles. Tatl and Tael lags along with the yawning Skull Kid.

"The crowds should be heavy enough to keep the guards from seeing you right away," Kafei tells Alton, "But I'm sure they'll be looking for you two. Majora's mask floats absolutely still above the platform. It is eerily silent on the clock; no noise is coming from below. Alton takes a step back, Skull Kid stares with anger, and the siblings huddle with fear. The lanterns continue to float in the sky, casting a shadow across the mask's face, but its beady eyes are like a roaring fire.

"Do you remember…" the mask speaks. Its voice is cold and pierces through their hearts, "when you played with me?" It lowers itself down to their height across the platform.
