Analyzing and Improving: Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

Having never read the comic I cannot in good faith improve the 'story' of Scott Pilgrim, so this review will focus on the film specifically. The movie version takes its own liberties with the plot to make for a more cinematic experience, but in my opinion even these could have been refined. Scott Pilgrim is by no means a bad film, but in some ways it fell short of the high degrees of potential that its quality earned for itself. Below are my thoughts of how with a few slight considerations that potential might have been fully reached…

His position is basically just being a dish washer and a food prep trainee to boot. Nothing too bad and he didn't exactly hate it. Ah, Scott Pilgrim. A somewhat oddball combination of Street Fighter, video game references, indie music, hipster dialogue and other fascinating traits. The best part is? It somehow completely works, if you can get into the vibe, I'm told.

I've read the books. Unfortunately, as a somewhat straightforward person, myself, I didn't exactly get all the humor or subtle nuances myself. (Remember, you're talking to a guy who gave Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen a recommendation.) Wallace issues Scott an ultimatum that he must break up with Knives. Scott does. Ramona comes over for dinner, bringing movies Wallace ordered for a Lucas Lee marathon. After an awkward dinner, Scott and Ramona put in a movie, which turns out to be a video recording from Lucas Lee himself. Lucas is one of Ramona's exes and he challenges Scott to a fight. Wallace briefs Scott on Lucas and Knives tries to contact Scott after their breakup. Scott takes Ramona to dinner at Stephen's house and Knives spies them through the window. Where do I begin with this? Because this particular is such a mix mash of everything people know about that it's kind of impossible to start with a review on such a film. I mean, anyone reading this; do you video games? Do you have girlfriends? If so, are their ex-boyfriends or girlfriends evil and want to fight you? Well, if you happen to be Scott Pilgrim, good luck. Okay in all seriousness, yes, I have recently watched the cult favorite Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
