PLANESCAPE MAGIC ITEMS
The following is a list of the notable magic items that appear in my Planescape setting novels, Odd Jobs and Cats and Rivers, and fall into the hands of Ceraline, Garadun and Laurewen, the heroes of the stories. I thought the D&D gamers out there might be interested to see the items in game stats (which are for the 3.0/3.5 system).

Foreword
In the Universe, there are an infinite number of dimensions, an infinite number of realities where people of different species go about their lives, most utterly oblivious to the fact that such an infinite number of possibilities exist. For those who do know, this knowledge is more often than not considered to be too mind-bendingly overwhelming to think about and they do their best to ignore it, usually over a hot cup of tea.
But this story is not about any such people.
The ones in this story are completely unaware that they have lived many different lives, bein

Laurewen was treated to breakfast in bed. It was late morning when Garadun had woken up, and he'd left his lover to doze while he went to the kitchen to make breakfast. It had been a first for him, waking up with a women in bed beside him. And an incredibly beautiful one at that. It was a damn good feeling.
They had made love all through the evening and into the night. Over and over again with nice breaks in-between, and then more lovemaking. A fresh young body and a lifetime of missing out meant he had a lot to make up for. Laurewen was ecstatic. Her new lover was an eager pupil, anxious to learn anything and

The second floor of the Sunken Treasure featured a spacious, carpeted lounge filled with plush divans, soft couches and large floor pillows where people could take it easy and mingle with the festhall's companions. It was where Ceraline found Jaalira after speaking to a barmaid. She explained the problem to the beautiful hostess.
"I'm sure we can accommodate him," said Jaalira pleasantly. "What type of girl does he prefer? We have all kinds."
"I don't know his exact preference," Ceraline admitted. "But she has to be gentle. He's not ready for, well, an aggressive type if you know what I mean. He needs someo

About five weeks later they were still on the island and the food Garadun had had in his dufflebag was long gone. There were plenty of coconuts, but something to consider: eat too much and it gives you the runs, especially coconut milk. The toilet paper he'd packed away with the other things had earned him the proverbial medal. Ceraline was also deeply grateful for the soap and oversized towel. He'd even produced a small comb, brush and mirror for her the first morning after sleeping in the lighthouse.
Water had been the big worry, but a further search of the lighthouse had revealed a hidden door which led to a

The cobblestone streets of the Impossible City were soaking wet, and small puddles here and there exploded in sudden, violent splashes when the tiefling's booted feet fell upon them as he charged through the Hive Ward. Unlike a great deal of the beings in the ward, which was the foulest and most dangerous in all of Sigil, the tiefling was not fleeing from anything. He was in fact in hot pursuit. Most citizens in the Cage would say you'd have to be barmy to willingly run into the Hive, but the job was the job.
And Garadun did the job. It was what he was paid to do.
The City of Doors doesn't have a lot

There were shops and vendors located all across the Big Doughnut, but without question the largest concentration were in the Market Ward. The wealthy elite and their gold might be centred in The Lady's Ward, but where that gold was spent and exchanged hands, where trade and business, the pulsing heart of the city that made it work, was located, was primarily in the Market Ward. Anything and everything could be bought and sold in the planar metropolis. Anything. There was a saying: if you couldn't buy it in Sigil, then it didn't exist. Weapons, clothes, jewels, magic items, sex, knowledge, spells, slaves, even the souls

As it turned out, Ceraline's worries about tromping through the streets of the Great Foundry were unwarranted. The Foundry was located in the heart of the Lower Ward, on the opposite side of the city from where they lived in the Clerk's Ward. It was roughly ten miles between the two points and there was no way any of them were walking that kind of distance. They would take one of the city's pony cabs.
They had spent a day buying things needed for their journey, including restocking of their own storeroom and pantry along with rolls of canvas to protect the floors when the time came. Garadun also picked up

In keeping with its name, the Clerk's Ward had the greatest number of bureaucrats, scribes, sages, barristers, bookbinders, booksellers, cartographers, printers, engravers and calligraphists to be found in all of Sigil. There were also plenty of inns, taverns, magic shops and other businesses to be had, not to mention residential housing and government buildings such as the Hall of Records.
As he made his way along Thistlewind Way with Ceraline at his side, Garadun's goal involved the written word. He was heading for a bookshop he'd discovered over two months ago and had since become a regular customer. He

Their encounter with the demonic alligator had left the companions with a renewed sense of urgency to leave the Blood Marsh as quickly as they could. It seemed like just about everything in the swamp was trying to kill them.
But they still had at least four more frogs to collect.
They stayed alert and on guard, using their ears as much as their eyes. Sloshing through the muck and mire, they used the light of Maygel as their beacon, going in as straight a line as the terrain allowed.
"Hold up," said Garadun, lifting his hand. "You hear that?"

The world of Great Ocean may have been extremely odd with its pink ocean and saffron yellow sky, but it had been a genuine, breathing Prime Material world with plenty of clean air and real sunshine, scenic beaches and warm surf, and lovely coconut-filled palm trees and beautiful flowers. They had grown accustomed to it during their inadvertent stay. If freedom of travel to and from there had been an option, they would have thought of it as extremely enjoyable.
So the wet, dank, smoggy streets of the City of Doors came as something of a sensory shock when they emerged from the portal on its opposite end. It was l

Ceraline had had her fill of walking, and besides, the establishment she had in mind was a long, long way from the gnome's shop. His welcoming tower was located deep in the Market Ward, an hour's walk or so from the Grand Bazaar in the direction of The Lady's Ward. They had to go at least a quarter of the way around the ring into the heart of the Clerk's Ward. The city was over six miles in diameter with a circumference of approximately twenty miles. Only leatherheads walked that kind of distance.

The Block and Branch was a welcome sight by the time the party arrived. The day's light was fading to an ever-deepening gloom and everyone was bone tired. Having carried Ceraline all the way from the ruins, Garadun's muscles were aching. He'd made a couple of brief stops to put her down so he could work out kinks and then get a better grip while carrying her, but had otherwise kept up a continuous march. The pixie in Laurewen's arms only weighed a couple stone, so she had a far easier time carrying her back to central Faunel.
When the inn was finally in sight, Ceraline slipped off his back and walked the rest

The ideas Garadun and Abigail had about the Daern's Instant Fortress proved to be true when they returned to the City of Doors. Upon arrival they made the trek back to the Sunken Treasure along the wet, grimy streets of the Cage. In fact they simply exchanged one wet for another, because when they left Faunel it had been raining and when they got to Sigil it was also raining. The difference of course was that the former had been clean and refreshing in a tropical climate, and the latter was dirty and chill.
Ceraline and Laurewen wanted to set up their case near the Sunken Treasure for a variety of reasons,

There was no rush the following morning to be off at the crack of dawn. Garadun knew his friends more than well enough to know they weren't exactly early risers, especially Ceraline. He was the first up though, and he woke Thorik before heading downstairs to prepare breakfast. Even Shilling kept snoozing until the smell of bacon became too much and she came padding into the kitchen and climbed up on a stool by the central counter, miaowing softly and sniffing. She got first helpings.
But since they were supposed to be beginning their march through the mountains, when breakfast was about halfway ready Gar

There was a small storeroom adjacent to the dining hall, but apart from some old crates and a lot of dusty shelves there was nothing worth mentioning. Opening the door across from the storeroom, the companions found a third lecture room, identical in layout to the first they'd encountered. It was in good shape all things considered, although the large blackboard across from the tiered seating had fallen from the wall and lay on the floor in a few hefty pieces.
"I don't see anything," said Ceraline, glancing around the room.
"Shhh," said Laurewen, holding

Depressed and angry, Garadun spent the remainder of the day in a real bad mood. He kept to the edge of the woods and followed the river along its course. Several times boats and rafts drifted past, with those aboard occasionally calling out and waving. He ignored them and kept on with his march. There were individual homesteads and cabins here and there along the way as well. He trudged past them and the petitioners who lived there without a word. They let him be.
It wasn't hard walking. The land was easy on the feet and following the river meant there was no chance of getting lost. He took short breaks n

Laurewen's heart-warmingly sincere declaration took a tremendous amount of weight from Garadun's soul. To at long last simply know in his mind, well and truly know, that at least one woman out there genuinely cared about him as something other than a friend was an enormous boost to his otherwise crushed self-esteem. It took a day or two for him to process, to come to grips with it all. Laurewen wasn't his girl, but the fact that she would happily sleep with him if he wanted it was enough. He felt like a real person, a real man, for maybe the first time ever.
About a week or so later he, Ceraline and Laurew

Birds first thing in the morning. Noisy little buggers, they are. Poets wax on about the stupid things chirping and singing, but Garadun never liked them so damn early in the morning. It was never some soft, gentle song. No. It was as if every damn tweeter for a mile radius had cranked up their personal volume to max and let loose.
Even in Elysium they didn't cut him any slack. Bastards.
Wishing they'd all just sod off, Garadun sat up and rubbed his eyes and face. Shilling gave a huge yawn and looked blearily around from where she was curled up beside him. He stroked her a few times, then slid out fr

Laurewen came downstairs into the kitchen the following morning to find, as was so often the case, breakfast laid out on the table. Shilling looked up from where she was drinking from her bowl, miaowed in greeting, and then resumed lapping up her milk. Garadun was at the stove flipping pancakes.
"There's some scrambled eggs and toast for you," he said, glancing over his shoulder. "As well as bacon. Cera's pancakes are almost ready."
"All this, and after the night we had." Laurewen sat down with a sigh. "You really don't have to go to all the trouble, you know."

There were countless strange, wondrous and terrible things to see throughout the Planes of Existence; from the ever-shifting and eternal chaos of Limbo to the glittering treetop elven homes of Arvandor to the bubbling, horrific ooze and fungal forests of Shedaklah, one of the vilest layers of the Abyss. Ceraline had been born on a Prime Material world and raised in the Outer Planes at different homes owned by her mother, including a walled family mansion in Sigil. Despite her youth she had seen and experienced much, including a great deal of what the Big Doughnut had to offer.
But this was a new one even for her. T

After a solid night's sleep Garadun got up the following day and discovered that Ceraline and Laurewen still weren't home. They'd gone to visit their friend Niobe, a pixie who lived in the woods outside the gate town of Sylvania. He'd been expecting them back the day before, but evidently the girls had decided to extend their stay.
He was sitting at his main table, pulling on some socks, when little Shilling stopped playing with the edge of the carpet, got an odd expression on her face (if someone thinks cats don't have expressions then they know nothing of cats) and then tramped off into the bathroom. He

Flatnose Grim kicked open the door of Hoskuld's simple longhouse and stepped inside, closely followed by his dog. He was a big animal and in truth part wolf. His name was Gungnir, in honour of Odin's spear, and had been Grim's loyal companion for ten years, ever since he was a cute little pup gnawing on Kostbera's best shoes. People said his nose was so good that he could smell what colour a man's clothes were from half a mile away and was so tough that he had a horseshoe for a chew toy.
People said a lot of things in Glorium, often exaggerating, but they weren't too far off when it came to Gungnir. He d
