The Hunger Games
Katniss Everdeen, the main character of the novel 'The Hunger Games'. She is just a normal girl who hunts and trade in order to help keep her family safe. She made an impact on me because of her courage to save her younger sister, Primrose "Prim" Everdeen's, life by taking her place as a tribute in the 74th Hunger Games, a life-and-death situation where 24 tributes, two from each of the 12 Districts, fight and kill one another to win.
Not only has Katniss' courage made an impact on me but also her decisions to do things--things or decisions like taking care of her family after her father died in a mine accident, hunting animals and trading them with people to keep her, as well as her friend, Gale's, family alive, taking her sister's place as a tribute and saving her fellow tribute partner, Peeta's, life in the games, where there can only be one winner, and defying The Capitol, who created the Hunger games. And because of her actions during the games, many people from her district, District 12, as well as several other of the districts, has been inspired--has been given courage to fight back and rebel.
But as I kept reading the books, not only has Katniss made an impact on the people from the different districts but also on President Snow, the president of the Capitol, the 'spider at the center of the web'. He planned on killing her for defying the Capitol and for defying him.
As Katniss strives to win this war, she gains new allies from some districts and from the surviving District 13, a district wherein everybody has thought to believe was long gone but was actually hidden underground. Lives were lost in the battle but in the end Katniss won the war, giving the people FREEDOM.
Katniss' actions has inspired me that everyone in this world of ours is free. We are all free, we are free to do our own decisions, we are free enough to take our own paths. She has inspired me that one can never control each and every one of our lives like puppets. We are not pawns in someone's little game.
Katniss fought for freedom, she is the 'Girl on Fire', the Mockingjay, who led the people to freedom--to victory. And now, we have to right to be free, to not let our lives to be controlled.
We are free to make the right decisions and 'May the odd be ever in your favor'.
(PS...please keep in mind that even freedom has their limits. Do not do anything reckless; do not do something that you will regret. Think twice before you do something. AND DO NOT TELL PEOPLE YOU CAN DO THIS OR THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT BECAUSE THAT IS NOT FREEDOM AT ALL! Freedom are the decisions you make that are GOOD not bad.)
