Eurovision F.A.Q.

Sun May 27, 2012, 8:40 AM
Before you proceed: guys, this entry is made purely for lulz and partly for information on what, who and how. DON'T take it seriously :XD:
Just enjoy the show, since Eurovision is made for peaceful enjoyment :aww:
The idea to write this arised due to this poll :XD:
And actually, I've  always yearned to know how people in other countries regard the whole event.  So here we are :)
:iconfineevehelp1::iconfineevehelp2::iconfineevehelp3:

1.What is Eurovision?

:bulletpink: You can google official terms and dates in Wiki, generally Eurovision is an almost-international song contest which began 57 years ago with several European countries creating a song contest between each other.
For the lulz and entertainment :aww: - and heaven knows they succeeded in the 'lulz' part:XD:

:bulletpink: As years rolled on, more and more countries joined the show, so don't get tricked by the name - it's not only the geographical Europe, but also Israel and most countries of former USSR.

:bulletpink:  Some people tend to take the contest seriously. For sweet baby Jesus's sake, don't.
The only thing that saves the very oftenly dull row of songs copying one another is the freak-show element.

:bulletorange: To get the ultimate spirit of Eurovision in one video, watch the following vid:

WARNING: may cause brain damage if taken seriously. You've been warned.

To this very day, I tend to believe THIS is the best, freakiest, awesomest performance EVER.
Ukraine is always rocking the Eurovision :nod: Your argument is invalid :XD:
:iconfineevehelp1::iconfineevehelp2::iconfineevehelp3:

But actually, the event was beginning as a decent one, and it's thanks to Eurovision-1974 we now know the legendary ABBA :aww:

:heart: This is what I absolutely LOVE about Eurovision in general - the ENERGY, hot and wild:

:heart: Also greetings to Greece :wave:, this song is the passion itself, still sending shivers down the spine :aww::

:iconfineevehelp1::iconfineevehelp2::iconfineevehelp3:

2.Why it's worth watching?

:bulletpink: My most important reason is the stage design and lighting effects.
The last show in Baku was an eyegasm of epic proportions - all due to the highest class of professional light and motion designers who created all those sparkles, glitters, golden rains, hurricanes and such.
You know, just a sucker for fancy performances, that's me :XD: Not even listening to the songs as attentively as watching the lights shine :aww:

:bulletpink: The languages. I totally dig it when the country's representatives sing in their native language.
It's nothing short of amazing - and it allows to feel the music itself, without automatically translating the meaning of the lyrics and proceed with logic.

:bulletpink: Here's, for example, the fantastic Bjork performance of Albania in 2012:

:bulletpink: And Bosnia & Herzegovina song:

:bulletpink: And the hardcore Motherland of mine :la::

:iconfineevehelp1::iconfineevehelp2::iconfineevehelp3:

3.Best Eurovision show ever.

In my opinion, it's the 2007 in Helsinki, Finland. Here're some songs I adore till now:

:bulletpink: Serbian's winning "Molitva" (Prayer) - one of the most powerful and emotional songs the show ever witnessed:

:bulletpink:  Belorussian's "Work your magic" full of style and energy!

:bulletpink: Romania's entry - truly the merriest and most appealing song in history!! :boogie:

:bulletpink: Swedish song - witty and extremely cute:

:bulletpink: French epicness :la: - should have won if it wasn't for already freak-over-hills Serduchka :XD:

:bulletpink:  Hungarian blues ballad - awesome as it is! :la:

:bulletpink:  Russian sexy and wild performance :heart: - much better than nowadays 'see my panties' entries.

:iconfineevehelp1::iconfineevehelp2::iconfineevehelp3:

4.The Violin Effect - can last for ages.
It's the local meme of Eurovision :D It all began quite decent with the incredible performance of Željko Joksimović  back in 2004:

But then there came Russians, accompanied by Hungarian violinist Edwin Marton:

...And won :nuu: I'm still quite disturbed with this; in fact, Serebro in 2007 were MUCH better. Then again, same Dima was more impressive in 2006:

... But you can NEVER get bored of violins. Year 2009, Norway:

Also winning :D You'd think violins would be out of fashion - but no - if you google through 2010, 2011 AND even 2012 - you'll find violins there as well.
:iconfineevehelp1::iconfineevehelp2::iconfineevehelp3:

5. Oldtimes  - or how I learnt about Eurovision.

:bulletpink: 2000 - Alsou's "Solo":

:bulletpink: 2003 -  t.A.T.u. - "Don't believe, don't be afraid, don't ask":

One of the most provocative phenomena ever :XD:
:iconfineevehelp1::iconfineevehelp2::iconfineevehelp3:

I might have forgotten some more notable entries, so I guess I'd just update the post the next year the event comes in the limelight again :nod:

Kkk, yeah, I DID forget to mention my 2 favourite entries of 2010: Ireland & Portugal :la:

For now, if you read it till the end - and watched the vids, here's your cookiest cookie :aww:
