Contest Over: The Contest Ends with You...

The World Ends with You contest is now officially closed!             deviantART and Square Enix would like to thank you all for your             unmatched enthusiasm and thousands of amazing entries! With over             5,000 entries to review you have made this one of our biggest             contests to date!  The work is certainly cut out for our judges.

From the ingenious team that brought you Kingdom Hearts comes a new action RPG for the Nintendo DStm system called The World Ends with Youtm.

Set in Tokyo's trendy Shibuya district, the story begins with Neku, just another ordinary kid, waking up to find a text message that states that he must complete a series of missions or face "erasure". Now immersed in the "Reaper's Game" Neku must find badges that allow him to harness his natural abilities and powers to discover the truth behind the "Reaper's Game" before he is erased!

For all of you eagerly awaiting to actually play the game, it             is now available in the United States and abroad.  Check out The World Ends with             You official site for more information on that! And also             be sure to check out             The World Ends with You Journals and Gallery which includes             special exclusive commentary from the Square Enix design team!

Again, thank you for participating and stay tuned for the             winners to be announcend on May 2nd!  If you can't wait, check             out the entries at Community             Projects > Contests > 2008 > The World Ends with You

THE CONTEST

Square Enix has generously provided deviantART the exclusive rights to distribute Concept Art Boards demonstrating the creative process used in their new game for the Nintendo DS "The World Ends with You".  Haven't you always wondered, "How did they come up with that?!" These boards can hopefully answer that question.

The Concept Art Boards are unique in that they were created specifically  for challenging YOU to create your own backgrounds, dream up new heroes or villains using your awesome skills as a traditional or digital artist to showcase the creative talent that lives here on deviantART!

We are looking for any of the three following types of submissions, keep in mind that you can submit as many times as you want!

Background Art
Think of this as an opportunity to show Square Enix your abilities as a background artist, as if you were developing for a game. Submissions can range from a fantastic realm to a rendering of your neighborhood to a futuristic city on the brink of Armageddon. It truly is up to you, and to help inspire you to create your backgrounds, you can check out the first installment of Concept Art from "The World Ends with You" Here. If submitting a background, it will help to label your entries "background: XXXX"

Heroes/Villains/NPCs
Use the Concept Art featured on http://wewy.deviantart.com as guidance in creating your very own hero or villain character as if you were developing for a game. Entries into this category need to have human qualities. It will help if you label your entries "hero: XXXX"

Non-Human Characters
Use the Concept Art featured on http://wewy.deviantart.com as inspiration to create your very own non-human character (in the game, they're called Noise) as if you were developing for a game. Submissions can range from malevolent slimy things reminiscent of Alien, to furry fanged fuzzballs, there is no limit to what you can showcase in this contest! It will help if you label your entries "noise: XXXX"

This is a chance to showcase your talent to one of the most respected game development houses in the world. What are you waiting for? Are you up for the challenge?

THE PRIZE

10 Finalists will receive a copy of "The World Ends with You" game as well as a deviantART prize pack. deviantART prize pack will consist of a 6 month subscription, a deviantWEAR t-shirt and an Accessory pack.

1 Grand Prize winner will be selected from the group of the 10 Finalists. In addition to the game and the deviantART prize pack, the Grand Prize winner will receive a written critique of their winning submission from members of "The World Ends with You" development team.

THE JUDGING

IMPORTANT update: I hope I'm not breaking any rules by organizing this giveaway contest. I sent a question to ask people in charge is this allowed after getting a note from one of the deviants.
This is a giveaway. I don't ask anything in return. I just wanted to be fair and give a chance to people who might have never had a premium membership to get one as a gift.

If being kind and generous will get me banned, someone please tell me.

Thank you

INTERNATIONAL, 13+

A mere eleven years ago, deviantART met its humble beginnings. Since that time, we've grown to be the world's largest online art community, but even a site as massive and established as deviantART had to start somewhere. We never forget those few small sparks that launched deviantART to be where it is today, and that's what we're celebrating during our birthday season.

For this year's community event, we're embracing the idea of starting small and creating something amazing from just a few quick sketches. We've started this work for you and challenge you to finish it with the pizzazz that only the best art community in the world could do. Let your imagination run wild!

We've given you a random combination of lines in the downloadable pack below. Your challenge is to look at the drawing creatively and find an object or scene within the randomness to bring a whole new meaning to the piece. Use these few lines to bring this skribble to life!

Download Template

What do you see when you look at this skribble? Maybe you see two unicorns engaged in an epic battle of survival. Perhaps you see a desert oasis, filled with palm trees and delicious drinks. Or could it be that this is the lost underwater kingdom of Atlantis? However you're inspired, we want to see it!

You can do a lot with this skribble. You can print it out and use traditional methods to craft your entry. You can digitally recreate it into a masterpiece. Your creation is completely up to you!

Submit Artwork
  • The skribbled lines must appear in your entry exactly as they appear in the download. You may not move or alter these lines in relation to each other.
  • The original lines must be clearly visible. No covering up or deleting these lines! You may trace them, but we must be able to easily see the original lines in your work.
  • You may rotate the set of lines as a set of lines in any direction you'd like within your entry.

  • Apple iPad2 (16GB)

This contest begins August 1, 2011 at 12:00 AM Pacific and ends August 22, 2011 at 11:59 PM Pacific. Semi-finalists and winners will be announced shortly after. There will be 3 prize winners and 22 semi-finalists.

10th Birthday Badge

Every deviant who successfully finishes the puzzle and submits their high score will receive our official 10th Birthday Badge!

Just click on the 'Start' button to begin.  Keep in mind these helpful tips:

  • To move a puzzle piece, simply click on the piece and drag it to anywhere on the board. Once you select a piece, it will be on top of the pile, so you are aware of the one you clicked.
  • To rotate a piece, click on the piece, then hit the spacebar or the arrow keys in the direction you want the piece to rotate. You can also rotate the piece by selecting it and scrolling up and down the page, but be warned, this may cause the piece to spin quickly.
  • Once you find two pieces that fit together, drag one next to the other, and if they're a true fit, they will automatically mesh together as one.
  • The puzzle won't take up the entire space, so feel free to use the extra space to drop pieces you are unsure about.

Once all the pieces are together, submit your high score to automatically receive the 10th Birthday Badge!

  • The 10th Birthday: Get Puzzled game is open to all deviantART members worldwide.
  • Membership to deviantART is free.
  • Feel free to play as many times as your heart desires, but remember you can only get the 10th Birthday Badge once.

The Contest

Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins… oh my! With Halloween just around the corner, a favorite holiday for many deviants, Fella is preparing to eat a ton of candy, carve multiple jack-o-lanterns, and most importantly… decide on his Halloween costume. And that's where you come in! DeviantART is proud to present Fella's Halloween Contest!

We've made Fella's Halloween Contest as inclusive as possible. The contest is open to ALL deviantART members (United States residents, non-United States residents, zombies, witches, warlocks, vampires, and so on). Additionally, because we want to maximize participation and allow artists of all mediums to enter, there are three ways to take part in the contest. You can enter as many times as you want, in multiple categories, but can only win once.

Three Ways To Participate

1. FELLA PLUSHIE!

Do you have access to a Fella plushie? If so, using the plushie as your model, design and create Fella's ultimate Halloween costume. Use any materials that you can get your hands on to dress, decorate, and add pizzazz to Fella. Whether you clothe, draw, paint, or stitch, be creative and crafty!

2. TEMPLATE-TASTIC!

No Fella plushie? Fear not! Simply use the template provided in the resource pack below. Using any image editing application (Photoshop, MS Paint, GIMP, etc.) let your imagination run wild and create Fella's Halloween costume masterpiece. Add in stock photography, use textures and other resources, or even print out the template and complete your entry using traditional art techniques. Anything goes! (Remember, when using stock, be sure to use legitimate resources and to give proper credit. Google is not a source of stock. Fella will turn your head into a pumpkin if you think so!)

3. SPOOKY STORIES!

There's nothing like the chill of a good Halloween story to rattle your bones and we challenge you to pen some hair-raising fun featuring Fella! Urban legends, haunting folklore, creepy limericks and poems — all genres of literature are fair game. Just remember, your story needs to make some kind of mention, even brief, of Fella and his Halloween costume. All entries must be less than 250 words.

Win Awesome Prizes

Each contest category will have one Grand Prize winner and two runners-up! The winners will not only walk away with Fella's tender love and appreciation, but will also receive the following goodies.

Grand Prize (x3)

  • Any 20"×30" Fine Art Print + frame
  • $50 Amazon.com gift card
  • 2 deviantWEAR shirts (any 2 in stock)
