Whole work in progress video... YouTube

Work in progress painting video

And I finally uploaded whole video painting progress from my recent painting Hidden Temple (drawing below). I wanted to post it already yesterday but I rendered it like 10 times already and I just couldn't submit it (it rendered more than 8 hours). So now it finally worked (though I still can't see full HD resolution. I recorded screen on 1920x1080px, but for now I can only see 720. I don't know why :O I hope it'll work later). I drew it 7.5 hours, and video is 6 times faster than actual drawing. So you'll be able to see whole progress in one hour.
Hidden Temple by *tincek-marincek
And here below is video which I uploaded on our YouTube account Tincek-MarincekART. Like you see it's from drawing above...I drew it flipped like I said under the drawing. It's matte painting and you can see how many layers I use ;P 109 number is still pretty small number for me. I just didn't recorded first 10 minutes, cuz I didn't know if I'll draw it at all. But later I decided to record the progress...

If you can't see the video here then you can check it here. Hahaha...and I renamed layers in 3 different languages. Sorry :giggle: I renamed them with word which I remembered first. Ignore type errors. Sometimes I write too fast, so I don't correct the name. :D Enjoy.

Journal Entry: Sat May 25, 2013, 7:08 AM

Hello and welcome everyone to another issue of our Manga and Anime Artist of the Month! I'm especially honoured to announce that May's Artist of the month award goes to the incredible artist =Gasara!
Ever since I met Laura I fell in love with her art! Her style is simply fascinating, filled with magic and charming characters! Stalking her art gave me the chance to get to know her a little bit and she's a very sweet and helpful person, offering resources to pretty up your profiles, giving words of help and support, creating tutorials for growing artists...

All in all, Laura is a wonderful artist and deviant, totally deserving of being May's Manga and Anime Artist of the Month!!

Congratulations!

Getting to know =Gasara a bit!

Hello there! Why don’t you tell us something about yourself? We’d love to know a bit about you!

Hello! My name's Laura, I'm English and I work as a sales assistant in a greetings card shop.  I adore J-Rock, Brit Pop and alternative UK Rock. I've never grown up and still love Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers. I also love watching football and PDC darts. I am both a chocaholic and a cake-aholic and would not survive without coffee.

I think that's all the important things covered.

What influenced you to start drawing manga and anime styled works? Have you tried or considered switching to another style different than manga? (realism, cartoon, abstract, photography…)

Digimon was the catalyst. That was the first anime I really got into, back when I was about 14 or 15. Shortly after that I started watching a lot of anime on Cartoon Network and Fox Kids, such as Tenchi Muyo, Escaflowne, Gundam Wing, and Teknoman. I just fell completely in love with the style of the animation and the more mature storytelling. I'd always loved cartoons but anime was just a revelation. Getting into manga was then just a natural progression.

I would have to say that out of everything though Beyblade has to be the most important influence. While I'd already drawn a lot of fan art for the anime I was watching, Beyblade became a real passion and I started buying doujinshi which prompted me to draw my own comics. The circles Utageya, Mugensaika, Gekkasai and B-Lack influenced how I began to draw and eventually my style developed from that into what it is now.

I've never considered switching to another style because how I draw has never been a conscious choice. If I end up drawing in a different style in the future it will be because of how things develop rather than deciding to change. That said, I really enjoy the anime/manga style and while I can appreciate realism and photography, for example, they're not something I'm really interested in turning my hand to.

3) What is the part you love the most about drawing in manga style? And the least?

I think what I love most is the freedom that the style affords me as an artist. I love quirky, whimsical imagery and I think the anime/manga style compliments this nicely. It's easy to create interesting characters and to build bright wondrous worlds where things don't always make sense but it seems acceptable somehow. I can draw floating rocks and stars hanging from chains in the sky and it doesn't need a reason or an explanation.

And my least favourite? There isn't anything I really dislike about actually drawing in this style but I am rather disappointed that there's still a certain stigma associated with it. Many people still reject it as a 'proper' form of art, as though it's somehow worth less than Impressionism or Realism for example. Doing one or the other doesn't make you a better artist, just different. Art is art and I think it's the diversity of it that makes it so interesting. So whether people draw cartoons, stick men, take photos or paint realistic portraits their art should be treated with the same respect that anyone would hope to get for their own.

4) Show us your favourite piece from your gallery! How about another one you love from someone else?

Oh, goodness! That's such a hard decision to make. I think I'll have to say... this piece:

The Lute and the Horn by =Gasara

I've always loved jesters. I think I rather romanticised the idea of them when I was younger but there's just something so interesting about them. So for that reason I'm saying this one, and because it captures my love for medieval and whimsical imagery.
But really I cannot choose... :nuu:

And from someone else? This one by *goku-no-baka:

+BH - Chasing Dreams+ by *goku-no-baka

Because Goku is amazing. Because she can draw really intense, breathtaking pictures... And then she will put sausages in them. Goku's art always has the best sense of humour and I really love that.

5) I’m in love with your characters and designs! Can you give us some insight on their story?

Thank you very much! Well, to put it very simply, they get in trouble. It doesn't matter which character you take from any of my stories they will get in trouble. They're basically all adorkable troublemakers with hearts of gold.

From To the Soul you have Masa, a mercenary with eleven shadows, and Munryeo, a priest with half a soul. Munryeo is on a mission to put his soul back together and ends up dragging Masa into things - which he's not overly pleased about. They get in trouble with the Queen and basically try to cure their afflictions without getting arrested. It doesn't always work out.

And from In Fang + Thief / Boys Over Faeries (a two-part story) you have Meiro, a cross-dressing host, and the constantly exasperated Xero who run a bar in the slums of Lower Asgard. The young thief Jun gets in trouble with the law and ends up living at the bar. Chaos ensues.

6) How is your creative process like when you create a new character for your stories?

Haha, there isn't actually a process. I don't necessarily create characters in terms of purposely sitting down to invent or design them, they just happen. It's pretty much just a single thought. And if I draw a character then that initial design will be the one I use. I don't refine or redesign or draft or edit. There may be some natural progression over time but more often than not whatever my first concept is, that's it. And, really, that's not a very useful answer, is it? I'm so sorry... orz

7) What do you love the most about drawing/creating them? Are you considering drawing a manga to tell their story?

I am a very sentimental person. I get attached to the most ridiculous things. Nearly every inanimate object in my house has a name (Dave, usually. The occassional George). My characters? I love them. I adore them. They're my bros. I am ridiculously attached to them and their stories and drawing them is just an absolute joy.

All the characters mentioned above are from manga I plan to draw. They've been in the planning stages a long time now (In Fang + Thief / Boys Over Faeries since 2004 and To the Soul since 2008) but this year will see the start of actually turning those plans into real work. I hope to have the first chapters of both series available later on in the year.

8) What piece of advice would you give to every person out there who wishes to follow the Manga artist path too?

Go for it. Go forth and follow that path. If you have the urge to do it, if you have the inspiration, then you're ready. Draw what you want to draw and let your passion speak for itself. I won't give you any technical advice because I don't think art is really about being good, I think it's about doing and enjoying. So go forth, guys, and enjoy!

9) Is there something else you’d like to say to our readers? Feel free to express yourself!!

Be proud of yourself and enjoy your art. I really think that is the most important thing to do as an artist. I've said this quite a lot in my time on dA but I find it so heartbreaking to see young artists being so hard on themselves. There is a lot of magnificent art here, in real life and all over the web, and I know how easy it is too look at work like that and think 'Am I good enough?'. Well, let me tell you this: You are. You most definitely are. Sure, there might be areas where you could improve, that's true for everyone, but you will. You will improve. And you will learn. So please, please don't worry about whether you'll get better or if you're as good as this person or that person. You will and you are. So please enjoy your art and let it make you happy because you deserve to be

Fur Tutorials & Resources

I did a previous article on some awesome resources as far as Anthro art is concerned but I wanted to highlight some awesome tutorials, brushes and resources that have sprout up sense then!

DeviantART has such a wide variety of resources available to all beginning, improving, and skilled artists alike! We never stop learning and being able to provide some of those resources I hope will help you as they've helped me!

Some of the more 'daunting' tasks with Anthro art is anatomy but I get a lot of questions about fur and how to draw it or paint it in. This includes direction of fur, direction of strokes, what brushes to use, what stock to use, etc! It's nearly limitless!

So without further adue, here are some great resources that I hope you will find helpful to you!

Questions to the community

1. What is most probalamatic for you in respects to anatomy?

2. What type of tutorial would you like to see?

3. What type of tutorial is ,ost helpful to you? Video? Photo step by step?

Anatomy Help

Fur Brushes & Tutorials

Here is a great list of some awesome resources in regards to fur brushes. There's nothing wrong with using brushes to help you along in your digital art experience but make sure to not 100% rely on them. Though they are an amazing tool, try and use them for a base and then work your way around with details, stroke motions and get a good feel for how the fur should be!

Free Lineart

Practice makes perfect and you can utilize your skills and practice them on some free line art provided by some extremely talented and gracious artists on DeviantART! Make sure to follow their guidelines when using their free line art (like credit if you upload!)

A collage and mysterious short story from Gerard in AltPress: [link]

Also, no one did the *dAhub thing when I asked about it, and only two people participated when I tried offering something in return, so I guess I'm just going to have to flat-out ask for donations. Normally I have enough points for a Super Group by now, but I've had trouble getting commissions this year for some reason. I know the band has broken up, but I still plan on running this group for as long as possible. So if you have any spare points, please consider helping out. Thanks.

Got an idea for an article?

We're always looking for people to write articles. If you have an idea for a group article, send =toad1 a note. Articles we've had in the past include writing advice, discussion topics about the band and fandom, and posts from roleplay accounts. (Check out some of the articles listed on #MCRdeviantClub's front page for examples.)
If you have MCR news that hasn't been posted yet, feel free to post a blog or note =toad1.

Urbex #10

Thu May 23, 2013, 8:00 AM

What I found particularly interesting about this weeks Urbex topic, is the fact that two popular art genres, at least here on deviantART, have been combined. I came across an article about Urban Explorer Jared Lim who photographs not only under-appreciated, un-seen and forgotten places - but also who makes Abstract Art from them. From my time as a CV in the Abstract and Surreal Community, I've learned quite strongly that you can make Abstract Art from anything, but I would never have associated it with Urban Exploration. Just goes to show...So anyway, this weeks features are along that theme. They hold repeated shapes and patterns amongst the more obvious theme...

Urban Exploration is the exploration of man-made structures. Usually these are abandoned ruins, or components that used to be part of everyday life but are no longer seen on a regular basis by the human eye. This series of articles aims to highlight exactly what Urban Exploration is, how it's achieved and the some of the best Urbex Photographers here on deviantART. Have you ever been afraid of being bullied? Have you ever felt death was upon you during those times? Bullies...It's just something we can't avoid; They come, when the come, that's how it goes. But what if it was just the other way around...Like, the victim..Would torment the bully...?

A boy by the name of Grimm was just moving by into a new neighborhood along with his father, Clyde. His father drove his truck and took him around the new town they had to live in and get used to it. Grimm took a look around as he had a smile on his face, and lets out a chuckle.

"You like the place, son?"
"Yeah, it could be worst. I could do some Parkour around here"
"I got a good feeling about this," his Clyde said, he spoke too soon. Clyde had a smile on his face as he drove onto their new farmhouse. The two went out of the truck, as Clyde inhaled the athmosphere deeply.

"The air smells good around here, don't you think, son?"

"If you like manure and cows, then yes," he said. Clyde pats him by the shoulder, as he laughed.

"You'll get used to it. Now let's get in that new house," Clyde said as he took his son inside their new farmhouse. The two finally unpacked their luggage, and started to take down the furniture. After hours of decorating, it was finally done; Their home was completely decorated. At the same time, Grimm took a look outside. It was already night-time.

"Dad, it's getting dark out"

"Then we better get some bites then, son," he said, as he walked towards the kitchen and took out some canned-goods. Clyde started cooking as Grimm was laying by the couch taking a break after all the decorating. He wiped off his sweat. As his vision became semi-blurred and began to have a headache. Grimm stood up and walked slowly to his new room.

"Son, dinner's ready. Do you want to go to bed this early?,"

"Yeah, I'm not feeling good right now. So I'll just hit the hay," he said as he held his forehead, and just went to his room. The next morning, Clyde had made eggs and bacon. Grimm went downstairs to grab breakfast.

"Today's your firsts day, son. Make some pals and be careful from those bullies,"

"Dad, I'm not a kid anymore. I know what to do,"

"If you say so. Just have fun sport," Clyde pets his son on the head as he grabbed his backpack and left.

Grimm ran to school. Of course, he preferred to run; He finds it fun to do some Parkour tricks. He ran, he jumped. And found himself around some benches and fence as he continued running. He finally reached his school, and ran inside; Seemingly excited over his first day. After a few boring hours of school, he finally met those who ruined his life.

"So, you're the fresh new meat?," the first boy said. He was wearing a orange jacket, blue jeans and he seemed thin. Three other guys joined in and surrounded Grimm. "Now for introductions! I'm Rick" the first kid introduced himself first. "And this is my gang," he pointed onto the other three boys. "Aren't you going to introduce THEM?" Grimm pointed to the other gang members. "They're not into all the 'intro' stuff" the gang began to surround Grimm, and began to lash at him. Grimm couldn't fight back, as he was beaten roughly; He began to bleed, and fell unconscious after all that.

"Welcome to hell, newbie," he said as he left Grimm to bleed on the ground.

Grimm walked home after all that beating. Clyde was just riding his truck around the town until he saw his son walking by the road. "Hey son, where the hell have you been? I was looking all over for you"

"Sorry, dad. I just got lost,"

"Get in the truck," Clyde commanded his son. Grimm did as he was told and went inside the truck. Clyde began to notice the bloodstains on his shirt. "Grimmy, did you cause trouble at school?," Clyde asked seriously. Grimm didn't reply; He was silent. Clyde just drove off anyway. After a few days, Grimm started to hide himself around Rick and his goons. It was working effectively as planned. And became more focused around his surroundings after seeking advice from his father, Clyde.

After an hour, Grimm began doing an art project. He seemed calm after losing Rick for some time. "Surprise, surprise meat!," Rick startled him. Grimm quickly turned around and accidentally marked a scar by his cheek with a scissor. Rick wiped off and looked at his blood. The next thing he knew, found himself furious.

"You're fucking dead!," he yelled, As Grimm began to run. As he ran, he got up to the third floor and met up with Rick's goons. Grimm began to have his headache again, as he held his head. Rick caught up to him, as he smacked him across the face, and faced the floor nearly unconscious. Rick began to laugh ominously.

"Let's see how you like being cut in the face," Rick grabbed a pair of scissors, as he began to cut Grimm's right cheek forcefully.

Grimm began to shriek in pain; He struggled, and got Rick of his back. He touched his face, and found a large amount of blood dripping from it. His hatred toward Rick grew, and he began to charge over to him. The two fought each other had a few punches to the eye as it began to swell, as Rick threw him off.

"I've had enough of you!," Rick grabbed his leg and threw him off the window. They all looked outside the window and found Grimm landing on top of a speeding sport car and was left unconscious. When his head met the car; That's where it began... The birth of his blood lust and his desire for revenge, his sanity; Just crumbled down, and thus. A murderer was born within the young man.

That time when he woke up, he found himself lying in a hospital bed. His eyes were covered with bandages, and his right cheek was taped with a gauze. He took off the bandages on his eyes, and took a look around. His vision was just semi-blurred, but regained to clear vision afterwards. He walked over to the rest room and looked at himself. He was shocked of the outcome of which happened to his face. He found his irises red; Ruby red, the colour of blood. Half of his face was stitched all around his left cheek. He then began to remove the gauze off his face, and found a big scar on his face. His wound was still bleeding, and never fully recovered. Grimm was startled by the sound of the door opening, only to find the nurse.

"What did you do to my face?!," Grimm ran out and held the nurse by her neck. "W-we changed your eyes...Your old ones were severely damaged when you crashed... And you're face...I-it was ripped by the glass, so we had it stitched..." Grimm threw down the nurse in anger. As she began ran to call for help. He pulled her back into the room. As two doctors came in, both were holding a syringe, and one was holding a scalpel "Kid, just make it easy for yourself. And just calm down,"

"Shut...Up..." he replied, then two doctors charged towards him; Trying to force the syringe onto him.

He grabbed the syringe from the doctor and began to stab them repeatedly. Both doctors bled to death after repetitively stabbing them. The nurse, who witnessed the whole incident, became traumatized by fear. He walked towards her. Looked at her with those red fearsome eyes, and eventually, stabbed her fiercely.

Grimm then ran out from the hospital, and headed back to the farm. He found himself on the barn, he found a broken mirror and looked at himself. He was still shocked on what have become of himself. And yet, still noticing that the wound on his face hasn't recovered; He sought to fix it himself. He grabbed staples and his father's lighter from the house; As he began to staple his wound forcefully. He screamed in pain in each staple. And burnt the very wound after so.

"Grimmy, what are you doing...?," Grimm found his father seemingly shocked on what his son has done to himself. He began to . Clyde began laugh hysterically. As Clyde began to back away, knowing that his son. Was...Insane. grabbed a sickle by the table, and slowly walked towards Clyde.

"Son, w-what are you doing...?," Grimm then charged towards his father, and thrusts the sickle into his gut; And left Clyde bleed to death.

It then, began to rain. As Grimm grabbed a black rain-coat, and boots. As he began to run into the distance.

Rick was just with his gang, when they hear running footsteps.

"What was that?,"

"Ignore it. It's probably nothing," Rick said, seemingly not caring for what awaited them. After a long silence, Rick turned around to see if they were still following; Instead, Rick found corpses of his goons and a message on the wall written in blood.

'TIME TO MEET YOUR END'

Rick began to hyperventilate, knowing that he would probably be the next victim. As he began to hear a hysterical laugh, echoing. Rick found a man in a black raincoat, with his face covered by it's hood, as he laughed hysterically.

"It's time for you to meet your end..."

Anthropomorphic Art In Literature

An often widely over looked section from the Anthro Gallery, the literature community holds a great array of fantastic stories! So without further adue, here are some great literature features from the Anthro community!

Karal'e - Chapter One by ~VagabondMike

Have another piece of anthro literature to share? Please share and post your links here! I would love to feature them!

Anthropomorphic Fursuits - Quadsuits

As a request from the community I would love to include a feature of Quadsuits that weren't included in my previous article in regards to fursuits. So what is a Quadsuit? A quad suit, quadsuit or quad costume is a fursuit that utilizes the wearer's arms as forelegs which assume the position of a quadruped character's own forelegs on the same ground or surface as the character's hindlegs. Such suits, which are less common than biped fursuits, are used in order to further impress individuals with a more "animalistic" (hence, realistic) pose and manner of movement.
