Project Educate: Steampunk

Some source cited from Wikipedia.org.

Project Educate: Steampunk:

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction. It typically will feature steam powered vehicles not limited to trains, and is inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. It may also convey traces of a dystopian or post-apocalyptic environment, and often contains elements of the Wild West.

Before we called it 'Steampunk', there were elements in books and movies. The oldest precursor is the film 'Metropolis', a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction directed by Fritz Lang.

The term we now call it originated in the late 1980's, a variant of cyberpunk. It wasn't until 1995, though, that something was actually titled using it, Paul Di Filippo's Steampunk Trilogy.

For a long time, the elements of steampunk were used mainly in literature. It was easier, and of course cheaper, to describe the giant cities, and steam based machinery then it would be to create it for the screen. There was a 1960's television show which featured many elements of advanced steam-powered technology set in the Wild West, but it was Dr.Who that really set things in to motion.

As we know it now, steampunk is a widely acknowledged genre of film and literary media, and it is cosplayed often. A key element in choosing a cosplay outfit is that you can become your character, and it doesn't need to exist in a game, movie or book for you to be realistic.

Using cogs, clocks, goggles, corsets, bomber jackets, tophats and modified weapons, anyone can come up with a believable and excellent cosplay with a little time and effort.

Some people say that in order to make a great Steampunk cosplay, though, you have to believe you are the character. It wouldn't make sense for you to have vials and potions if you wanted to be a pilot!

The Crimson Acres Equestrian Center and the Hidden Hood Stables invites you to the 'Big Steampunk Fetival'! Feel Free To Enter! :')
We wish you a lots of fun! :'D

Dates
Deadline: Now to the 26th June 2013! Two weeks more time!
Before 12th June 2013

What is Steampunk?
Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery, especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. Therefore, steampunk works are often set in an alternate history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West", in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. Steampunk perhaps most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art.
Copy from Wikipedia

What are typical Steampunk Clothes?
For Men:
The typical steampunk men's costume can consist of a suit with a vest, cylinder and a long coat, jacket or suit jacket. It can also be high leather boots, gloves and goggles are worn.

For Women.
Steampunk Women often wear, but not always, skirts or dresses with petticoats, corsets (full breast or lower chest), elegant gloves (even fingerless) and a hat. In addition, pants are normal. It is not uncommon to see a Steampunk dressed woman as a pilot, air pirate or engineer.

For examples you can find pictures here on dA or you can find information on the internet. :')
Anyway feel free to ask. ;D

What is the Stock Treasury? :dalove: This is the first in a series of articles that I've been thinking about for a while. I want to create a treasury of stock resources from around dA. Please leave comments below if you have ideas for future themes. If I choose your suggestion for an article, you'll be credited when your theme is featured.

What is Steampunk? There are lots of articles and web pages on this subject. However, in my own words, Steampunk immediately makes me think of Jules Verne, author of such works as "Around the World in Eighty Days" and "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea." These stories take place in a world of Victorian science fiction. The movies "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and 2009's "Sherlock Holmes" were both set within a Steampunk universe too.

Steampunk is akin to Cyberpunk, which has some similarities. Each has been influenced by punk style/fashion and science fiction, but the science in each one is rather different. Cyberpunk is about futuristic computer technologies and cybernetics, while Steampunk is more about an era that embraces the use of steam engines, balloon airships, clockwork gears, and other marvelous inventions like time machines and potions that conjure Mr Hyde! Anyway, I digress...

Steam Punk Features!

In the following features, you will find some great Steampunk resources from dA's Resources & Stock Galleries to use in your artwork. FAQ #217: What are "Stock and Resources" and can I use them in my submissions?

Please :+fav: and adhere to the artist's terms before using any stock images.

At the time when this article was published, each of these images was under 50 +favs. Please go give them some love!!
