About the HPR
To use the HPR, first open another browser window and go to random.org.
In the top right corner you find a little box.
Change the two numbers in the box to fit the two numbers you see in the () in the benning of the sections below.
Like "Base Personalities (1-50) - then change box numbers to 1 and 50.
Then press generate.
Match the generated number to the number on this journal to find a personality for your horse.

You got other options besides just personalities, such as special querks.
Feel free to give your horse 2-3 querks, if you want.

HArpg is G-rated in general but we do have artists of ALL levels playing, from beginners to school-leavers, to teachers. From youngsters to teens to adults.

:bulletorange: If your horse/stable/stories/art are not G-rated, please put a PG warning in the 'art' submission you upload to dA that is connected with HArpg.
:bulletorange: Our goal is to help encourage art practice, art growth, imagination and to have fun. HArpg is a place where you can have your very own dream horse.
:bulletorange: HArpg is a slow-paced game, for people to do in their SPARE TIME. Be it in the weekends, holidays, breaks between commissions, breaks at work, whenever YOU feel like.
:bulletorange: Do not badger ANYONE for art, ever; art will be made when it is made in the artist's own time. These are not art trades.
:bulletorange: Remember! Do not use linearts created by other artists, or re-use your own multiple times. This is NOT a 'colouring book' game.
:bulletorange: We encourage artistic growth and art practice. We do not want stables filled with just linearts. Practice drawing different breeds, colours, etc. If you feel you can't draw many horses, don't create that many horses. Instead, concentrate on a few horses and fine tune your artistic skill; you will be surprised at how fast you improve! Even the most skilled artists still need to practice. Since this is a game to help practice, the use of a flipped lineart to show the other side is not allowed as well.

Draw/Create a Horse!

:bulletorange: It can be any breed; some awesome horse breed books at the library!
:bulletorange: Any colour; fantasy, realistic, anything goes!
:bulletorange: Upload it to DA, on your DA account.
:bulletorange: Do not create your first/starter horse out of HArpg 'created' breeds until you are registered.  (Besides, it's more fun to make up your own horse without limits and rules of already created specialty breeds.)
:bulletorange: Do make sure it's a full-body view of your horse, no head-shots or half-body images!
:bulletorange: No linearts or the same lineart flipped to show the other side  (no same image re-posted over again with just different colours like a colouring book)!
:bulletorange: No tracing! This goes for skeleton tracing, too.
:bulletorange: No having others draw the horse for you! (That includes commissioned work)
:bulletorange: Use your imagination; it is limitless! What is your dream horse?

I think what confuses people is what lineart means. Lineart is, art that is lines only, eg: colouring book.  A single image without colour, that is re-produced, and coloured differently over again. Either made by oneself or by another artist.  What Harpg encourages, is artistic growth. To create a singular complete image, from sketch to ink to colour, done.  Not a colouring book.  Finished images.  You can do fun doodles and sketches for your horses; that's fine and fun as it helps to develop the horse's character. We do not encourage churning out of the same image again and again, though, only coloured differently, this does not help an artist at all, except for practicing colours or working out markings.

You cannot trace your horses! And this goes for skeleton tracing. Tracing an image takes out the planning, measuring and mental exercise that goes into drawing a horse from scratch. You can use any other technique to draw a horse so long at that technique has nothing to do with tracing.  If we think your horses are traced, we will ask you to prove to us that they aren't (if you are under suspicion, ask yourself; how would YOU want to be shown that what you did isn't traced?), if the proof is solid, we will allow you membership to our group.  We understand that there are artists who are so good at drawing horses that they seem traced, but they explain and show us how they do it and then it's all good. :)  Read here for more info on helping to prove your case.

Think Up a Name/Names for Your Horses!

:bulletorange: Use your imagination!
:bulletorange: Be creative!
:bulletorange: Horse names will not be reserved.
:bulletorange: No vulgarity or swear words in the name.  Keep the name G-rated.  And no, you can't have a name that just hints at vulgarity.

Give Your Horses Information, History and Personality!

:bulletorange: Copy/paste the below form in the deviation info section when you submit your artwork.
:bulletorange: Have fun filling it out and developing your horse!
:bulletorange: It is recommended to type the info out on Notebook or Microsoft Word first to save it, in case DA or your computer isn't working and crashes on you.  That way, you won't lose your typing.
:bulletorange: Copy what you have written on the Notebook or Word file, paste into the information section and submit.
:bulletorange: You can add whatever info you want to the below stats, or reformat the info however you want.

Here is the method we would like to see used for the horse info.

Name:
Gender (mare, gelding, or stallion):
Breed:
Age: (No younger than 5 for stallions and mares up for breeding!)
Height:
Color:
Markings:
Discipline:
Passable Traits:
Sire/Dam:
Bloodlines: (Its imperative that bloodlines be typed up on the Dev comments, if already bred from two horses or more! Otherwise it is a 'starter')
Offspring: (Any foals your horse might have had.)
Other: (can be your horse's history, or a short story if you like.)
For stud/lease: (make sure our stallion or mare is at or over age 5 before saying yes here!)

Create a Stable!

:bulletorange: Some members prefer to create a new DA account just for their HARPG horses, this is definitely okay!  Just still follow the same rules above and below.
:bulletorange: Create a journal/blog on your DA or stable account.
:bulletorange: Type the name of your stable in the title, with the word HARPG next to it.
:bulletorange: Add a link to HARPG in your journal.
:bulletorange: Co-owning is not allowed.

Think Up a Name for Your Stable!

:bulletorange: Be creative!
:bulletorange: Stable is a loose term; you can be a barn, stables, ranch, equestrian centre; whatever!.
:bulletorange: Please check the 3 stable lists to make sure the name you want is not already taken ---> 1 and 2 and 3 <---
:bulletorange: Stable names will not be reserved.
:bulletorange: This is the name your horses will be associated with, so NO name changes unless absolutely necessary.  Choose wisely! (absolutely same reason deviantART only allows name changes to premium members, big technical process and uber confusion!)
:bulletorange: Type out a description/information about your stables if you like.

:iconheartdivider1-plz::iconheart-divider2-plz::iconheart-divider2-plz::iconheart-divider2-plz::iconheart-divider3-plz:

Add Your Horses to Your Stable!

Typed into your 'Stable' Deviantart journal entry, list all your stallions/mares/geldings with the following information for each:

:bulletorange: Name of Stallion/Mare.
:bulletorange: Link or thumbnail to your Stallion/Mare.
:bulletorange: If you have a lot of horses, it's okay to just list the links and/or thumbnails of the horse in the journal.  Some people make separate journals for their horses and just make sure to link those journals into the main stable journal.

Send a Note to :iconhorseart-rpg: titled "Join"!
:new: Or submit the stable journal/blog direct to the stables folder! For easy browsing.

Make sure you've completed your stable journal, added at least one horse's link and the HaRPG link.  In the note add:

:bulletorange: The name of your stable.
:bulletorange: A link to your stable journal.
:bulletorange: We do not want a link to your profile/gallery, just your HARPG stable journal.
:bulletorange: Then wait to receive a reply saying "Approved, Accepted or Registered."
:bulletorange: When your stable join note is accepted, HARPG sends you a member request (join requests are invitation only)!

Misty Meadow Stables likes to invite you for a somewhat new type of event. I have seen some more of these kind but not that much, so I thought, since I came up with the mini events, which was totally judged randomly, I decided to host another one.

Mini event = low effort, 100% random
Medium event = No background, 100% effort

Maybe this is not the best inspiration to give you all, but I actually dislike backgrounds once in a while. Seriously, it can sometimes literally ruin my picture and it takes me a lot of time.
So how about a full effort based event without backgrounds??? :XD: (it's a great way to enter events for busy people with little free time)
I actually should motivate you all to draw a cool background, but since I am not playing a teacher her, I won't and make it (more) simple and quick for you guys! :D
Nuff said, let's go check the event.

Deadline

1st November 2012

We use them to test our skills in competitions, both by riding something much more powerful than ourselves as well as convincing the horse to love us so much he wants to do what we ask of him (or her).

We use them for transportation - yes, even today. The Quakers & Amish still use horse drawn buggies to get around, and we use them as such too. I use to ride mine to the country store and the bank (and yes, I DID ride through the drive-thru with her :D ).

We use them as a sounding board when no one else will listen to us. I don't know about you, but that happened to me a lot. I was out in my stable constantly talking to my horses, telling them all about my day at school.

Most importantly, they are our best friends!!!! Who ever said dog was a man's best friend obviously didn't have a horse. :D Always there when we need them, always listening, never judgmental, never tells us to shut up or that they don't care. Of course, if you bring a carrot or apple with you while you talk, that's even better.

Horses never hold a grudge, always forgive wrongs (although sometimes that's with held until they get their pasture buddy back), and love you unconditionally! What better friend is there?!?!

So, in celebration of the wonderful, incredible, stupendous, gorgeous, superbly talented and athletic horse, I have decided that this week I'll have a feature just for them!

Most of these featured are traditional art, some are digital, but none are photography. We have some terrific equine artists here at DA, and it's time we celebrate the HORSE through our talented DA Artists!!!

Enjoy the eye candy!! Be sure to click on the horses to go to the artist's home page, and then browse their galleries and spread some love around!

Nancy
For :iconhorseart-rpg:

I came up with this last night after seeing lots of similar methods. I haven't used it to create any actual HARPG horses yet but I've been doing lots of trial runs and getting realistic results. I designed this for stock-type horses and their colors/disciplines, but this can easily be modified for other types of horses... i.e. changing color frequencies, changing abilities to racing distances instead of cow sense, and anything else you see fit to your stable.

This is most appropriate for foundation horses with no previous parental influence, but if you wish to use it for lined horses you of course can do that.

Go to random.org and select the random number generator. Set the parameters 1-100. Generate a number for each part of each step to create your horse.

Step 1: Sex
:bulletblue: If you draw 1-50, your horse is a colt.
:bulletgreen: If you draw 51-100, your horse is a filly.

Step 2: Height
Roll a number for the main height category, and then use the actual number itself to determine the specific height. (i.e. if you roll a 23, that puts your horse on the upper end of small, so it would be about 14.2 hh.)
NOTE: This is set for stock-type horses-- feel free to adjust for breed standards.
:bulletblue: 1-25: Small (13.3-14.2 hh)
:bulletgreen: 26-75: Average (14.3-16.0 hh)
:bulletyellow: 76-100: Large (16.1-17.0 hh)

Step 3: Conformation / Physical Characteristics
There's a few parts to this one so be careful not to skip any.
A. Conformation
:bulletblue: 1-20: Below average conformation. May have flaws that inihibit high-level performance.
:bulletgreen: 21-45: Average conformation. Funcitonal but not exceptional.
:bulletyellow: 46-80: Above average conformation. Considered correct but maybe not perfect.
:bulletorange: 81-100: Ideal conformation by breed standard.

B. Build
:bulletblue: 1-33: Stocky build.
:bulletgreen: 34-66: Average build.
:bulletyellow: 67-100: Lean build.

C. Eye Appeal
:bulletblue: 1-20: Homely. This horse isn't your definition of pretty-- it may have an ugly eye, roman nose, etc.
:bulletgreen: 21-55: Average. This horse is rather plain but not ugly.
:bulletyellow: 56-75: Attractive. This horse is typically pretty, turns a few heads.
:bulletorange: 76-100: Exceptional. This horse captures the attention of everyone with its physical beauty.

Step 4: Temperament
:bulletblue: 1-15: Poor. Intractable, hot-headed, maybe just plain mean... take your pick.
:bulletgreen: 16-30: Fair. Not as mean as the previous but still far from being considered a specimen of temperament.
:bulletyellow: 31-50: Average. A step up from fair.
:bulletorange: 51-65: Good. Maybe has a few vices.
:bulletpink: 66-80: Great. Almost a perfect disposition.
:bulletred: 81-100: Exceptional. You could trust your life to this horse.

Step 5: Abilities
***It's important to note that you can absolutely adjust this to your type of horses. Replace cow and reining ability with breaking speed and heart if you're a racing stable, or perhaps suspension and extension if you are making a dressage horse.***

Also, if you get a horse that is completely devoid of any talent, you can reroll to get at least one strength.

Greetings fellow Horse SIMers, below is a list that I've put together of random generators for horses names and life events. If you know of a good generator not on the list, please post below! Also, if you have a method for grading shows, or creating a more realistic horse life, post those below as well!

Basic Generators
Random.Org
Random number, dice, and coin flip generator. I really like the coin flipper because there are coins from all nationalities.

Horse Name Generators
1,000,000 Horse and Pony Names
Race Horse Name Generator

Behind the Name

Horse Life Generators
Animal Genetics Coat Color Calculator
This calculator is handy when you have the genetics to both mare and stallion. This website gives you a list of possible foal color outcomes. However there are some genes they do not calculate.

Horse Life Generator
Created by Mendokusee of the HARPG. This appears to be a Mare and Foal predictor which tells whether or not a mare will have a healthy birth, if a foal is healthy, and what quirks they may have.

Horse Color Generator
This was created by me, and some of it doesn't flow properly just because you can't have certain colors together, but it is still a work in progress, and for the most part pretty functional.

Equine Color Genetics - Foal Color Calculator
This is a new coat calculator on the internet, I'm not sure if all the kinks have been worked out of it or not, but it also includes simple illustrations of what the foal color would look like. They have updated genes that the Animal Genetics Coat Color Calculator does not, including new dilutions and additional white patterns.

Joe Mays' Horse Description Generator
This generator gives you a list of color descriptions to choose from.

The Horse Generator
This gives you a color description and behavior quirk in a generated list.

HARPG Generators 101
This generates the breed, name, colors, flaws, discipline, abilities, conformation, career, height, age and death.
