Here is an awe-inspiring collection of macro photography, featuring nature's finest details and textures.

I love macro photography - it shows otherworldly beauty, intricate detail and astonishing textures in places that you might not think to look otherwise.

Most of these artists featured are virtually unknown, so please show your love to them!

And don't forget to :+favlove: if you are inspired in any way by this article!

“What should I draw, man?”

The name of Vanessa's soon to be launched website is going to be ispyvanessalake.com so the basic idea is to play a game of I Spy with Vanessa. I spy Vanessa Lake as a superhero? You bet! I spy Vanessa Lake as Pirate? Draw it! I spy Vanessa Lake as a Fantasy Princess? I want to see it, man! Put Vanessa in the art genre you love the most and go to the proverbial town!

Just whatever you do, don't try to hide the gorgeous Vanessa in the leaves of a tree or behind a rock on in the smoke from a chimney. This is I Spy, not Where's Waldo?

“Is nudity allowed?”

Vanessa often models nude so nudity is certainly allowed. Just try to keep any nudity no more naughty than what you might find in Vanessa’s own gallery.

However, it should be mentioned that nudity is NOT required! Vanessa could be sexy in a suit of armor so don’t feel like you need to have her naked to win! I love the nude female form but it is not the only art I appreciate and certainly not the only thing to like about Vanessa Lake.

“Can I use her images as references or stock?”

Yep. Vanessa has graciously allowed any pictures in her gallery to be used as references for illustrations and photo manipulations for this contest only. You can visit her gallery here: [link]

Tattoo References:

After this contest has ended, you must seek permission to use these materials the old fashion way: Asking politely.

“So photo manipulations are allowed? Cool! Where are my hi-rez images?”

I love good photo manipulations and had hoped we'd see some in this contest. However, I have no access to high-rez images from Vanessa's gallery and as this is my effort, not hers, I don't want her to be hassled to provide them. I hope photo manipulators are able to make due with what we have available to us. Just make sure to post links to all your stock so the judges can get an idea of what you did with your work.

"How do I enter, Uncle Attache?"

First, you know that creeps me out. Second, all you do is post your downloadable entry to your own gallery and note me a link with the subject "Vanessa Lake Art Contest" or something like that. I will download and re-post your entry in a special contest folder for tracking purposes but these will all be deleted within 30 days after judging is complete. No entries will be displayed in my gallery after that time without my seeking permission from the individual artist(s).

I will upload images to the Contest Folder in groups of three or more so if your entry doesn't show up right away, be patient.

"Can I collaborate with my brother/sister/friend/significant other/secret lover?"

Just so long as they aren't all the same person. Make sure that you include instructions in your note on how the prizes should be split up in the event of a win, place, or show by you and your art partner. I can split points and I might even be willing to split up a membership just so long as it is in 3-month increments.

DEADLINE

Contest runs from July 26, 2010 through to September 6, 2010 11:59 pm Pacific Time. Duration is now 6 weeks.

If you are interested in participating, it is highly advisable to put me on +Watch for the duration of the contest so that no important updates or announcements get missed.

JUDGING

Judging of the individual pieces will commence shortly after the end of the contest and could take several days. Pieces will be judged on categories like originality, technique, likeness (with special consideration made for caricatures), and overall impact. There will be no less than two and no more than six judges. Besides myself, all judges may remain anonymous.

RULES

• Respect for Miss Lake must be maintained at all times.
• Due to the images in Miss Lake’s gallery, this contest is rated MATURE and should only be entered by artists who have reached the age of majority in their respective country. Otherwise, the contest is open to any and all devaints, amateur and professional.
• Visual arts only please.
• All entries must be new art completed during the duration of the contest. If it is discovered that a submitted piece of artwork was completed before the contest’s start date, it will be disqualified.
• You may enter as often as you like by submitting a completed piece of artwork.

PAYMENT OF CASH PRIZES

Pay Pal is my preferred method of payment and the winners accept all responsibility for fees and taxes due in their respective countries. Other payment options can be considered as long as they are reputable, can be performed online from the comfort of my home, and the winner understands that any excess fees I incur will be deducted from their winnings. If Money Transfer Company X, for example, charges me $30.00 to send the First Prize to your country, that $30.00 will be deducted from the winnings.

Other payment methods also might cause a delay in payment as I may need to set up a new account and have it verified before use.

LEGAL

All artwork remains the property of the particular artist and they retain the rights to their work. However, Miss Lake retains rights to her likeness. Artists who might want to make commercial use of their artwork should pursue an agreement with Miss Lake. She can be reached via email at vanessa@ispyvanessalake.com.

DISCLOSURE

This contest is a genuine effort from a genuine Vanessa Lake fan. It is self-financed and I have no affiliation with Miss Lake or her management. I honestly find Miss Lake’s beauty to be inspirational and as I lack to ability to act artistically upon that inspiration, I merely wish to help generate as much art as possible. This is for entertainment purposes only and I will not be displaying any of the entered artwork in my gallery for more than 30 days after the winners have been declared without asking permission of the artist(s) in question.
:new: Event is now officially closed. No more extensions, no more entries accepted.

Just a quick question to the judgers who are helping; is anyone currently judging the dressage or tag classes? I know some people have pulled out, I just cleaned up my notes and wasn't sure if anyone was still judging them x3

-----------------------

Serenity Lake has now opened its doors to our first competition, and the staff welcome stables all around to participate in this winter event. Over the course of the next 2-3 months, we're forecast for a lot of heavy snow. Because of this, we thought 'why stay inside all the time?' Instead, we'll hold a competition!
Accommodation is available for both horse and rider and they may stay as long as they need; teams are free to roam the grounds of Serenity Lake as they please.
On the final day, at results night, there will be a party leading into the early hours of the morning. The guests are required to wear formal attire.
