:bulletred: HOW-TO INSTALL GIMP BRUSHES (Vista) :bulletred:

You can use Photoshop brushes (.abr) in Gimp, no need to convert. Add the brush (.abr/.gbr/.gih) file to your 'C:UsersusernameDocuments.gimp-2.xbrushes' folder.
*For .zip/.rar or other compressed files read below ->

username=your computer username (ex: jenni or jeff) - used for windows logon
view folders screen-shot: [link]

.gimp-2.x=your Gimp version (ex: 2.6) - usually the Gimp version installed on your computer

*Compressed Files: If brush file is in a compressed (.zip/.rar/other) format, you must unzip/extract the file(s) before adding the brush(es) to the Gimp brushes folder. How? Read next ->

:bulletred: STEP 1: If compressed, unzip/extract file(s). You can create a new folder named 'stampbrushes' (or other) on your computer to unzip/extract the file(s).
!Important: Remember the location (on your computer) of the new folder. (ex: 'C:UsersusernameDocumentsDownloadsstampbrushes')

:bulletred: STEP 2: Go to the extracted file(s) folder, select the desired brush(es), then MOVE or COPY brush(es) to the 'C:UsersusernameDocuments.gimp-2.xbrushes' folder.

:bulletred: STEP 3: If Gimp is already open, click the REFRESH brushes icon - usually on the lower right of toolbox. If not open, just open Gimp to use/view the brush(es).

Congratulations, you installed a Gimp brush! :icongrin-plz:

:iconquestion-plz: Anyone know if I got this right/wrong?

If you’re like many of the graphic designers out there today you aren’t able to afford Photoshop. And although there are plenty of other ways to obtain such graphics software, Adobe does staple a hefty price tag to their creative suite. Luckily GIMP is one extraordinary exception to the rule.

before, I do not know if there are people out there who have never made this kind of tutorial, but hopefully this might be useful for some who read this.

this time, I tried to split the tutorial titled "making own signature brushes in GIMP",
do you know what 'signature' I mean?

here is the sample ;
siggy

original picture at [link]

and
siggy2

original picture at [link]

usually, I make it manually each time have to make a signature, so a bit troublesome as well.
then I make it as 'brush' in GIMP.

First, we'll create a design signature that we will use,
by using the GIMP, create a new file,
then select RGB mode image, and background using BGcolour.
its size is up, but I suggest using 250 x 250 pixels,
new

and here is your new worksheet ;
Name of Image

then, we create new layer, and select transparancy colour on this new layer;
Name of Image

klik ok, and make layer background invisible by clicking eye symbol;
Name of Image
++
++
++
VV
Name of Image

you can design your own signature on this new layer(transparancy),
it's the sample ;
Name of Image

if you have finish your signature's design, then we can save it as GIMP Brushes (.gbr),
select save, and name it ' yoursignature.gbr '
then save it on your GIMP brushes directory (on linux user, see pict bellow);
Name of Image

if notice said you must merge layers, click 'merge visible layers', then ok,
new dialog will appear, and setting spacing section,
I fill it with '10',.
Name of Image

then save.

ok, we will try our new signature brushes,
open some image from GIMP,
open brushes dialog with ( Shift+Ctrl+B),;
Name of Image

then refresh brushes list ;
Name of Image

ok, you can see your signature in brushes list;
Name of Image

and it works!;
Name of Image

sorry for my very lame-bad english,
I'm Indonesian, and I'm proud to be indonesian,

and, hey, you can create your own brushes too with this tutorial :D

you can ask or critique this tutorial if you want and if you can,.. :)

salaam

This is a worded tut for making rain on GIMP. :DD

Are you ready for your rain?
Great!

First, you will need to make a new layer.
Now, on the new layer, go to filters > noise > hurl.
For hurl I put; Randomization:50 Repeat:11, but feel free to mess around to get what you want.

Now, you ask "What is this? I give up." Well, it's the beginning of your rain!
Lets move on.
Go to layers > Colors > Desaturate

Now you're gonna start getting your rain!
Go to filters > blur >motion blur.
For this I put; Length:30 Angle:300.
But of course, mess around to get what you want.

And now-you have your rain!

Thanks to my mate :D [link] Bloodeh on the paint server of Ponybox. x Luv ya girl!. xx

Nevermind, GIMP 2.6 supports PS brushes! :dummy:

Have you ever seen some completely awesome brushes, but in Photoshop format? No? Well Photoshop brushes can be found here, and GIMP brushes here.

So converting, Photoshop .abr brushes to GIMP .gbr. Go forth and make art with new brushes.

Photoshop brushes without the cost of Photoshop. ($699, or the extended version: $999)

Just don't submit the converted brushes, that probably counts as art theft.
