I Believe in Krampus!

Thu Dec 15, 2011, 11:01 AM
Feeling bored with traditional American Christmas traditions? Well then let me introduce you to a wonderful tradition thanks to Austria, Hungary, Germany and all the other Germanic sorts of Countries, Krampus! Its good cop bad cop with this twist of Santa bringing along his good friend Krampus who carries a birch bundle and whips the naughty kinder, while santa gives presents to the gut kinder! if you are especially naughty Krampus (Which is old German for "Claw") will kidnap you and your parents will be free of their ill behaved naughty child.

Of course after reading/researching all of this blessed holiday fun, I instantly thought of Lil Chibi Prussia, and his dear old Vati "Germania" you just KNOW Vati told the story of Krampus to his young ones, and yes you can expect to see a New Holiday Chibi Prussia Diaries soon based on this wonderful old German tradition.

Below are some examples of old postcards of Krampus, if those don't get you in the holiday spirit nothing will ;)

still needing more Krampus here is a link to a Youtube vid of how Krampus would appear on a holiday special

I got sick of seeing merry christmas. so yeah Krampus needs more love. For you americans it's Christmas Eve, Here it's Christmas so you americans need to hurry up and get with the times.

Gosh.

ANyway.
I got this huge art box thingy to put everything in, but turns out because they keep buying me all these paints and shit every year for christmas and my birthday I have so many paints I can't fit them all in the right spots so yeah....
Also lots of pencils....
I got a Wii, and all these games for it. I played Harry potter most of the day running around calling Ron an asshole, and Hermione a bitch, and seamus a stupid brit and Calling Neville sexy cause he's cardigan is the shit.

Anyway. at one point I kept dying because rons fat arse was in my way and I couldn't see anything but where the sun shines from.... D:

I got chocolates too, and a book for painting, and a easel. so pretty good this year.

I played a Dora game my cousin got on the Wii, and in the end I chucked an America and couldn't stand the spanish retard and pestered my 5 year old cousin if she was finished playing it, then she did and thats when I played Harry potter again.

Well look at that, it's December! :o
Like I promised, here's this month's challenge, and the theme is the ever so merry-full Krampus!
Being Hungarian I had to deal with this particular beasty myself at Christmas times. I always received a bundle of golden twigs (virgacs) with my chocolate to signify that I'd been a naughty child. :giggle:
    Enjoy drawing this fearsome demon!

    :bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow: CONTEST INFO :bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow:

The description from the Wikipedia page:

" Krampus is a mythical creature recognized in Alpine countries. According to legend, Krampus accompanies Saint Nicholas during the Christmas season, warning and punishing bad children, in contrast to St. Nicholas, who gives gifts to good children. When the Krampus finds a particularly naughty child, it stuffs the child in its sack and carries the frightened child away to its lair, presumably to devour for its Christmas dinner.

In the Alpine regions, Krampus is represented as a beast-like creature, generally demonic in appearance. The creature has roots in Germanic folklore. Traditionally young men dress up as the Krampus in Austria, southern Bavaria, South Tyrol, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia during the first week of December, particularly on the evening of 5 December, and roam the streets frightening children with rusty chains and bells. Krampus is featured on holiday greeting cards called Krampuskarten. There are many names for Krampus, as well as many regional variations in portrayal and celebration. "

Preposterous Poppies!

The time has come for me to announce the idea for our new contest! Since good ol' October is nearly upon us, with all of its ghosts and ghouls and other sundry beasts, we're going to do a monster theme!

.: Draw Prince Poppycock as your favorite monster! :.

:iconprincepoppycockplz::iconsaysplz: How atrocious!:iconsaysendplz:

This can be anything from the aforementioned ghosts or ghouls, to werewolves, Frankenstein's monster, scarecrows, zombies--or you can go above and beyond and find a creature not as easily recognizable. Draw him as a krampus! Cthulhu! The creature from the Black Lagoon!

The only catch is that you must try to keep some of the elements that make Prince Poppycock, well, Prince Poppycock. (i.e. the wig, high heels, blush tailcoat, etc.) This may not make the monster necessarily scary (a werewolf in lipstick, high heels, and a shimmering green tailcoat would probably be significantly less threatening), but the goal is to make the creature easily recognizable as the Prince.

So take your idea and run with it!

The medium can be anything visual-arts related! Drawing, painting, sculpture, costumery, animation... You can even submit more than one entry if you want to! Have at it!

The deadline will be Sunday, November 11th!

We're looking to get a fairly extensive pool of prizes for this one. So... Uh... If anyone would like to donate to the cause, let me know!

Prizes:

:bulletred: First Place:

~A fully-colored drawing of your Poppycock monstrosity from ~ChaoticInsanity13!

Hey Kiddies Here in Australia it's new years eve, I bet you are all jealous cause Krampus comes to us guys bwefore you Americans.
BWUAHAHAHAHAHA Krampus loves me more.
anyway, after christmas everyone will be talking about new years resolutions, whyich is just another time of year to lie to ourselfs about promises we can never keep about changing ourselves. I however have a system, I make short term ones I know I can fufill, or whatever.

Resolution Numero Uno:
Stop drinking Coffee's, it's really bad for yo teeth Mokka, even if your named after a type of Coffee in German.....
D: Thank god for the 100 teabag box of Lipton black tea I got for $3.59 Australian dollars. I'm guessing in America it's basically the same price, according to some shit converter it'd be $3.65 American dollars.

Resolution Number Zwei!!!
I forgot! OH THATS RIGHT! No moar swearing. None at all. I know swearing is part of Aussie culture, I mean like the F bomb and the B bomb, I will still say Bloody and shit and all that but I wanna seriously cut back. It's making me feel like a feral.

Thats all my resolutions.
Really.
I make really easy ones. cause I'm not gunna lie to myself. ( I guess the swearing one might be a challenge)

Anyway.
So in american right now it's snowing whereas in Australia we don't get snow. and we have all these christmas lights on houses. To give you an Idea of how hot it is in Australia during christmas

We get up to 35 Degrees Celcuis. which is..... ( lemme find a converter) Apparently it's like 95 degrees Farenheit. I don't trust this converter. No I checked the thermometre outside it's around right.

I know it doesn't seem much but here in Australia the humidity is insane. I know In Victoria if its 35 degrees it's REALLY FREAKING HOT. but in QLD, 25 degrees is just as hot, merely because In VIC, the humidity drops in the heat and rises in the cold. In QLD the heat and Humidity rise therefore it's hotter and stickier. Seriously I hear you americans complain about the 120 degrees days, I dunno how the hell it gets that hot. because here in australia that'd be 50 BLOOD DEGREES. thats way to hot. D: It musn't be that hot for America then because seriously at around 40 degrees we start having blackouts, because of everyone ususing the Aircons and fans all at once and the power stations can't keep up with it all.
