Ok, so, i went town with my friend and went into this shop and whilst she bought some stuff i found a small book on Astronomy. I've always been interested in it and i love camping and sitting out under the stars. Me and a friend usually sit outside at night, when camping, and watch the sky, waiting for something to happen. well one night something did, we where sitter there, and just starring up at the night sky, just chatting about how amazing it is and how small we felt, then this realy bright shootin star shot right across the sky. it was visible long enough for us to sit up and gasp at the exact same time XD, we sat there, starrin in absalute unbelief untill somthing in us finally snapped and we just looked at each other and jumped up and ran to my caravan, where the perents where, and ran to my friends dad (hid dad knows quite a bit about stars and stuff) and startin ranting on about it, i dont think any one could understand us :D Any hoo, i was so amazing.

So, ever since i got this book, i cant seem to put it down and i cant seem to stop thinking about it. I realy realy realy want to see a comet and a meteor shower and the book tells me when they occur. last time there was a metoer shower (or last time i remeber one happening) was last year and i was in the most perfect place to watch it, far from lights in the middle of a field, the people who owbed the caravan site had turned all the lights off so that and everyone else could watch it...but alas...i fell asleep, completely oblivious it was happening untill the next day when people told us. ARRRRRG, i was (and sill am) so pissed off i missed it. i also missed a lunar eclips that i could of seen from my flippin bedroom window. DAM YOU SCHOOL!. if i had one wish right now, it would be to go into space, maybe visit the ISS (international space station) and go to the moon. I dream of being able see to earth from the moon, lookin at my home planet as if IT was the moon :icondreamplz: i also want a telescope, (i wonder if my perents would let me buy one?)

of and ps. if you have had any experienses like comets, eclipses, shooting stars ect, please feel free to shar them ^^ or just anything spacy you wanna share

The Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition kicks off its annual global search for the best and most spectacular visions of the cosmos, whether they are striking pictures of distant nebulae or dramatic images of the night sky.

Hi everyone, well not sure how many will read this, but he I go anyways :)

Really just wanted to give you an idea about what I do in my free time, as you all know I'm an amateur astronomer and I love taking photos of deep space objects like galaxies etc.
Well I also run an astronomy group called Astronomy 4 Everyone, we have members from around the world now and it's steadily getting more and more members, so all good there.

One of the things myself and members of the group do is a lot of public outreach events, basically involves us taking our scopes etc to schools, scout or guide groups, village fete's and even running our own events at our dark sky observing site.

Well tonight we had such an event, this was also part of the BBC Stargazing Live 2013, a yearly event that in the last three years since it started and grown and grown in popularity around England. The event tonight was at Chandlers C of E School in Surrey, UK.

Really excellent night with over 120 people turning out on a very cold, cloudy and wet night. Luckily this was an all weather event so everything was done indoors, shame, but had to be done.

If your interested I have uploaded pics from tonight onto my groups Flickr account along with a write up about tonight, here's the link for it  [link]  There are also loads of other photos from previous events, I would upload them on here but their not really art, so I'll keep them on Flickr and the groups Facebook pages instead.

Anyways, thanks for having a read and I hope you enjoy looking at the photos.

Wishing you all clear dark skies from which to enjoy the amazing things up there above your heads, Keep looking up!

Andy
And now, we go to Rabidmoon with some astronomy news.... :P

Sir Patrick Moore sadly passed away yesterday.  He was a British astronomer and broadcaster whom, for very many decades hosted a little show called "The Sky at Night".  (As a child I saw this on television, though it came on fairly late at night where I lived.) An interesting and somewhat eccentric figure, at times outright controversial, his love of astronomy was nevertheless a genuine passion - forged from interest and self-motivated research, rather than a formal education in the subject. No doubt he inspired generations of amateur (and quite possibly professional) astronomers to get up, go outside, and start looking up. [link]

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's an approaching comet - that WILL NOT hit us - but that doesn't mean you shouldn't check out the cool footage from the Stereo B solar probe. SunsFlare on YouTube gives a brief presentation, light on hyperbole (minus, perhaps, the over-dramatic music).  You may think it looks large, compared to Jupiter - but bear in mind the object being shown is closer to the PROBE that is observing it than Earth or Jupiter - so it appears larger here than it actually is.  With the insane amount of nonsense out there, I tried to find a vid that was at least a bit more down-to-earth.  [link]

(If you really like pondering near Earth objects, well, we'll have a much closer pass by asteroid DA14 next February: [link] or for the "give me the basics", check Wikipedia's entry here - [link].   (Not going to hit us either. Just saying.)
****

As for Stereo B/Behind (and it's sister probe, "A/Ahead") - they provide us with a wealth of detail and information about our local star. The sun is an incredible object in it's own right; easy to take it for granted, when it's in our backyard - but that's a shame, really. Thankfully it's proximity gives us the opportunity to study it in great detail. More here: [link]

.. so strong that it borders the errotic.

ANYWAY, Scarlet is still down, so no cigars on Lost Heart yet. We need some program that we don't have to fix her, and until we get it there's no hope for my desktop computer. I'm sorry, guys...

I discovered that there is a computer I can use, but it is unreliable and has this delightful habit of shutting off without warning while I'm doing stuff. Nonetheless, my sister encourages me to rescan the pages and use it, so I will probably get on that.

I've been out of school sick for the last week. No idea what I have. But it's made me unable to eat for two weeks. Got some bloodwork done, we'll see what it is. At this point I don't really care, as it's not so bad that I feel horrible all the time but I'm just sick enough to miss school and be irritated about being sick xD

Hurr, what else....

ASK ME RANDOM QUESTIONS. I'll answer them, as long as they're not "WEN R U GUNNA UPDATE LOST HEART!?!?1@ ?#./1!1one"

Please entertain me. Please. PLEASE. :icontearplz:

I cannot contemplate numerous factors:

-Astronomical Signs
-Stereotyping

Now I understand that all around us stereotyping is a factor brought into each individuals lives and it is common to judge another person without learning more about them. I get it.

Though, mixing stereotype and the astronomical signs is what I think abuse and incorrect analysis of another being. On Friday I learned a little bit more about this girl who hangs out with us sometimes. She draws genertic anime and is faithful to the astronomical signs. Granted, I drew generic anime and I was faithful to the astronomical signs, however I did not apply it totality. At least, not to every moment. I began to learn that astronomy is a subject still being learned about. As astronomers learn more about outer space, they recognize newer star patterns, as stars born and die. I began to drop that subject whole, and remained skeptical.

I was born on April 5, 1997. In two-ish weeks I will be turning fifteen. I am not a peaceful person - I am violent and disruptive, stubborn, but extremely conscious of my actions...sometimes (if I'm not tired. Darn insomnia.) If according to the stars, I am suppose to be peaceful and nice (which I am...sometimes. And I mean, human beings are capable of these traits!) then it is inaccurate. >_<

Moral of the story: Don't judge people by the date they were born on.

People are like Ogres, then Onions. They've got layers, and if they're not washed properly they stink :(
The Royal Observatory of Greenwich is proud to present another round of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year, showcasing some incredible images of the sky, from within our solar system to deep space.

Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2011 has competition categories for everyone, including young astro-photographers, and there are some great prizes to be won.
