Great Horned Owl (Detail)

Closer view of the owl. This piece has generated more interest, views and comments than all my other pieces combined. The "Sneek Peek" of it I posted a while ago got over 4,000 views, I was absolutely amazed. I revised and built this design 3 times before the body looked acurate, with the first two, the body was to short and squatty. One of my next projects will be a 3-D Tiger Head

I got my hands on this glass ornament that had a twisted look to it which reminded me of a unicorn horn so I decided to make it into this. It is 26 inches long and so far the largest one of these I have made. The piece at the base is also glass with brass decorations on the handle.

Well... My mother got married for second time last friday and, since I don't have a lot of money, I made this for her and her new husband as a wedding gift. I hope they will enjoy a lot of fun with them because it seems very difficult to eat with them:)
The spoons are made from basswood and impregnated with an olive oil. They are carved from one piece of wood, mostly with my Swiss army knife, I only used a small u-shaped chisel to deepen the eating part of the spoon, and "polished" with a sand paper. They are little bit massive; of course, they could be thinner and finer but basswood isn't very hard, so if they were thinner, somebody could easily bite off part of it:) (It happened to me - a friend of mine destroyed two of mine spoons (bought ones)). The top part of both spoons was supposed to be in a shape of a heart but the wood was too thin.
Actually, it is the first spoon I have ever carved... And also the second one:)
