Pathfinder: Human Fighter Seth Drelican

Seth was born in the small town of Lake View south east of the fort Sword Keep off the shore of Lake Brey. He learned metalworking in his father’s forge and developed a love for the art of swordplay from soldiers that would come into town when they were on leave. When he turned 16 he volunteered to go work in the armory at Sword Keep helping to make and maintain their equipment. His passion and skill caught the eye of Sergeant Thril Gawen, an elf who was in charge of maintaining the garrison’s skill level and the dwarf Vobur, who was in charge of the fort’s forge. Thril took it upon himself to give Seth private lessons without the knowledge of the fort’s commander or Seth’s parents. Thril would later say that Seth was one of his best students. Vobur found Seth to be a great asset to his team and quite skilled for a human.

Several years later while he was home visiting family, he saw one of the officers from the fort harassing a waitress at the tavern where he was sharing a meal with his father and Vobur, who were discussing his progress as a smith. Unable to stand watching this harassment continue, Seth tried to talk the officer down but they ended up outside in a duel. Both his mentor and father were quite worried because the only time either of them had seen him pick up a blade was when he was making it. Much to everyone’s surprise, the officer’s in particular, Seth won the duel leaving the officer standing in front of him disarmed and at sword point. As a result of the fight both Seth and the officer had to answer to the commander of Sword Keep for their actions, the officer for his misconduct, and Seth for hiding his talents.

The commander told Seth that he needed more men like him in their ranks and convinced him to join the army. Seth became known for his calm in the midst of battle. He was said to have nerves of steel as there was very little that could shake him. Seth earned the rank of Sargent after only one year. As reward for his accomplishments, his mentors gave him gifts the likes of which he couldn’t imagine. Thril gave him an elven crafted Adamantine longsword. Vobur and his father presented him with a suit of Adamantine full platemail that they had crafted themselves. He was shocked beyond belief and swore that he would use them to help bring himself and his men home alive.

After several years of fighting, the deaths of many men under his command, and repelling an assault on his home town that had had resulted in his family’s deaths, Seth became discouraged and began to question what exactly it was that they were fighting for and how this war had even started in the first place. The consensus among the senior commanders was that they were fighting to bring the freedom of Breland to the less fortunate nations around them and to keep their own people safe. This response did not set well with him and he consulted his mentor Thril. Seth was certain that if anyone would know how things started Thril would because as an elf he was older than the war itself. Though talking with Thril, Seth came to understand that the war is a result of nobles who have been dead for decades fighting over who would secede their father’s throne.
