Here are a couple of pencil brushes that I made for Paint Tool SAI in order to mimic graphite pencil, to install them follow these instructions*:

-Extract the RAR into your Paint Tool SAI folder (install 7zip if you don't have winRAR).

-Run start-sai.exe to install the textures.

-Create a new "Brush" and manually adjust the settings like you see here, you could also use the Marker, Watercolor, Airbrush ...

I recommend using these brushes on A4 page size at 150 DPI and with stroke stabilizer at level 3 but use whatever you feel comfortable with.

Feel free to adjust the pressure to your taste, some press harder than others so you may have to adjust.

Change the Simple Circle to Flat and now you have a square tip shading pencil.

(*) Update if you're having issues with the start-sai.exe, download this pack and extract it into your main SAI directory (where the SAI program is), the brushes should show up automatically next time you run SAI), they may overwrite your brush list but I've put them at the bottom so unless you have any brushes there, it shouldn't be any problem. As an extra, I've included a set of "Airbrush Pencils" which are my favorite brushes in SAI.

The settings and the elemap file for a grass brush in Paint tool SAI :)

Click on "download", then un-zip the files.
In the pack there is a tutorial on how to install the brush, the settings, texture and the "start-sai.exe" file.

:bulletpink: :bulletyellow: I added a tutorial on how to install the brush, if you already downloaded the pack, but wish to read the tutorial I uploaded it here [link] :bulletyellow: :bulletpink:

:bulletorange: Edit: For people who are new to Paint tool SAI: This brush does not work like the "stamp" grass brushes in Photoshop. To get a result like in the preview you have to paint every single stroke individually, best method is to start at the bottom and go up in a quick motion, lessening the pressure so the tip becomes very thin :bulletorange:

:bulletorange: Edit 2: To make this work you need to have a tablet with pen sensitivity settings, it doesn't work with a mouse. :bulletorange:

Have fun :)

A few brush settings I made for Paint Tool SAI. BIG FILE!!

All the Inking bushes are made from creating a new "Pencil"

All the Paint brushes are made from creating a new "Brush"

The Eraser is made from creating a new "Eraser"

A few side-note tips:

For the "Painterly" brushes keep the density low (20%) to get good blending and high (80%) for details.

If you want the lines to be super smooth reduce the noise, paper and spread to 0

I set my default line Smoothing to 9. It’s right next to the Horizontal Flip just under Help/Config.

The Real Eraser works really well when sketching. It doesn’t rub everything away in an instant.

For those like me who get annoyed by that digital blob/flick at the end of brush strokes you can kind of remedy this by going to Help/Config> Options> Tablet> In the Click Detection Pressure box set the number to 10% or higher.

Also in the Tools Tab in Options tab you might want to change the Eye Dropper Colour Source to canvas so you don’t have to switch layers to pick colours all the time when painting.

There are quite a few versions of Sai out there with different Tab’s and Texture Packs so ask if you get lost or need help. Just be patient with me. :)

The pencil tool for sketching is over here if you need it: [link]

How to apply textures in Paint Tool SAI

It's my first time to make a tutorial, sorry for my bad english. This is more of a tutorial how I do it so sorry in advance if some of the techniques seem ineffective for you.

Here are my texture packs:
Ornate Patterns (lace, damask, etc) [link]
Stars [link]
Grunge (Abstract) [link]

Here's another way to apply textures in SAI, which is easier in my opinion: [link]

Don't know if anyone can get any use out of this, but I thought I'd share the SAI brush I made and used for that Okami-style picture I drew recently. Above are the settings I used, and the Acrylic and Paper 1 brush and texture can be downloaded by clicking on the Download button of this deviation.

My brush settings are not set in stone and I strongly encourage you to play around with them to suit your own needs! For example, I changed the brush mode from 'deep' to 'normal' in that red/yellow/green colour blot, so that the colours remained themselves and didn't darken. And hopefully obviously you are free to name the brush whatever you want, I just call it Okami brush because I'm a scatterbrain who can't remember what half my brushes even do.

HOW TO INSTALL THE BRUSH AND TEXTURE:
1) Extract the .rar file.
2) Inside the .rar should be files Acrylic.bmp and Paper1.bmp. Cut or copy the Acrylic.bmp and put it in the blotmap folder in your SAI folder. Then cut or copy the Paper1.bmp and put in the brushtex folder.
3) If you have a file called start-sai.exe in your SAI folder, double-click that and open the program, the brush and texture should show up in the correct places. After that you just need to manually set the brush settings to the way are in the picture, or however you want.
4) IF YOU DON'T HAVE START-SAI.EXE: Open the brushform.conf file in notepad and add the text 1,blotmap[insert a forward slash here]Acrylic.bmp, save and close it, then open brushtex.conf similarly and add the text 1,brushtex[insert a forward slash here]Paper1.bmp and save and close it. After that they should work. Now you just need to manually set the brush settings to how they are in the picture, or change them to whatever you want. NOTE: I don't know why deviantART refuses to show the forward slash symbol, but without it the brush won't work.

(Please bear in mind that SAI only displays the first 99 brushers or textures, so if you have any more than that, some are not going to show up, simple as that.)

Hi everyone! ´ 7 `
Please, forgive my pretty poor English... I tried, I swear T_T

Here you are the fourth part of how I made my YOHIOloid contest entry!

In this part I started explaining which tools I use for coloring + layer modes ´ v ` Anyway, if you still have any questions, feel free to ask me! I'll try to reply ~ ´ v `)/ :la:

Feel free to comment if you find the whole tutorial useful! It would be really appreciated! Also, if you want to show me if you followed it to make your own illustrations, I would love to see them! ´//7//`
Other parts!

I'll probably take a break from doing the tutorial because of college stuff... Currently dying T_T
