WHY I LOVE CINEMATOGRAPHYI bet A LOT of you are wondering why I'm such a nerd about cinematography. Well, thanks to my family, I have finally found the reasons why.
There's a REASON that the Best Cinematography award exists. To honor the geniuses who bring us those shots that echo paintings with their colors and movement. That's why people love the shots in Jesse James. That's why people love the cinematography of Citzen Kane. Even in black and white that still manages to suck you in with it's shots. Barry Lyndon is like that too. The shots were literally done to envoke the paintings of that time. Roger Deakins uses shadows magnificently. Danny Cohen used his colors well in Les Mis. Caleb Deschanel and Wally Pfister use the color blue amazingly. Phillippe Rousselot used glows well in Big Fish. Emmanuel Lubezki's cinematography is like a dance. Robert Richardson's work on Tarantino films is some of his best. Januez Kaminski's work on Steven Spielberg films is incredible.
