The story of Loan
A long time ago, on a distant island near Inkwell, lived a small flower that was in the company of his father. This flower in question was called Loan, Loan Carnation! (He has nothing to do with Cagney, even though they have the same last name). He lived in a world where the flowers were not like the others: they were flowers that had the capacity to have the magical powers of nature. Water, sky, earth, wind, stone, fire, snow, all that existed on Earth. Loan's father was the scientific flower of this little island. He had the power of lightning. James is a new engine who had been bought to work on Sir Topham Hatt's railway following the departures of several loaned engines. Recently, he had been involved in a dreadful accident, but was then rescued by Thomas and the breakdown gang. He was then repaired, rebuilt a little bit, given a brand new tender and a new whistle, after his old ones had been destroyed in his crash, fitted with new brakes and repainted into a new coat of paint. After seeing Skarloey, Rheneas and Glynn's red paintjobs, James chose to be painted red just like them. "Wow!" he said, admiring his new livery when the painters showed him what he looked in a mirror, "I look wonderful!" "We're glad you like your new paint, James." said Johnson Stone, the manager of Crovan's Gate Works, "Now that the painters are finished, you'd best head back to the yard.
