Character Profile Outline
Okay, before anybody starts to think this is some weird idea, let me explain.
For anyone who knows how to write (and I mean, REALLY knows how to write), you understand that a good story has everything written out on paper first. You know, stuff like Outlines, Plot Triangles, Character Profiles. This might be of a challenge to some of you and tie you down, but unless you are capable of keeping every piece of information in your mind, this is a good resource to fall back on. If you do not need this, then fineyou arent required to use it. According to Science Fiction Writers of America, do
Disney is famous for their movies and memorabilia accessible all around the globe, but the company’s fame and fortune has been obtained mainly in part due to their theme parks. Disney is known for featuring a combination of classic and high-tech rides and various magical attractions that all culminate into the happiest place on Earth. So, I thought as one who has been to two of the six Disneylands around the world and one to have watched every single POV video of the rides, I think it’s best we kick off a new ranking series where each ride at every Disneyland around the world is ranked. For the record, we will be going off of properties and not individual parks. For example, when it comes time to get to Disney World (tomorrow), it will feature Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios rides on the same list. Also, theater attractions will not count- in order to be considered a ride, you need to be established in a park and physically move a rider. Lastly, I’m not aiming to diss any of these rides because most of them are fun and you can’t rip into a simple, thrill-less ride when that was it’s designed purpose in the first place. If you have any contrasting opinions, feel free to leave them below in the comments. With that being said, let’s start things off at the park Walt Disney himself dreamed up and constructed, officially making dreams come true for billions of people still to this day: Disneyland in California. 55. Jumpin’ Jellyfish Pixar Pier features rides for the bold and the young, and this attraction is definitely one where you can live knowing you won’t regret missing this. 54. Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind It feels like it was just shoved onto Pixar Pier cause they had no place else for it, and it is very out of place in the fashioned carnival theming. This franchise deserved better. 53. Jessie’s Critter Carousel It’s a themed carousel- what more can I say to it. 52. Red Car Trolley It can offer scenic views, but you will get to your next location faster by walking. 51. Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley To The Rescue! Everything about this ride feels cramped and cheap as the show building is insanely small with excuses of animatronics. If there is a line for this ride for whatever reason, don’t waste your time waiting. 50. Luigi’s Rollickin’ Racers It’s an obvious re-theme of the Tea Cups, but far less expensive and there simply to add thrill to Cars Land. 49. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree It’s a similar design, had a similar budget to make, and had the same purpose as the attraction above it. 48. Disneyland Monorail Yes, the Monorails are making these lists, and you may ask me why it is so low- for starters, I am trying to be fair to the definitive rides dedicated to a sole park, but also, compared to Disney World’s Monorail, there aren’t a lot of scenic views and all that is able to be respected about it is that it was the original. 47. Tom Sawyer Island Boats The trip to Tom Sawyer Island is nowhere close to the extravagant views on the island itself, hence why this is so low. 46. Astro Orbiter Astro Orbiter will always be arguably the coolest looking rendition of this ride-style, but the one killer here that separates it from Disney World is that it is at ground level and kills the excitement of being hundreds of feet in the air; in Disneyland, you’re experiencing equivalent fear to whatever Dumbo provides. 45. King Arthur Carrousel It’s a carousel that meant a lot to Walt Disney- still just a carousel though. 44. Dumbo the Flying Elephant Fair warning to everyone who may want to see this worldwide attraction as a favorite, this will never be guaranteed a top half spot on any of these upcoming lists. There are a lot of good attractions on these lists, and while I think it is a must-do at least once on a Disney trip, one time will do- Disneyland’s is not that special and has a pretty boring queue, and it often has unnecessarily long lines. 43. Main Street Vehicles If you want to feel slightly more upperclass than the guests around you, then that is the only reason I could provide you for doing this attraction. 42. Casey Jr. Circus Train This was a simple attraction Walt loved and it explores Fantasyland and the history of Disney in a very slow way. Still iconic but hard to rate any higher or lower than this. 41. Mark Twain Riverboat It is a steamboat that takes you through the rivers of Liberty Square and Frontierland, and while the views are scenic, at the end of the day, it is no different than a ferry boat ride. 40. The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure The ride was once high-tech, but recent illusions and animatronics have started to fail, and while an update would be nice, it still may never compete with the rides above it. 39. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Magic Kingdom in Florida actually had the first version of this ride, and while the animatronics aren’t the most fluent, the bright scenes and great illusions make up for it and provide an enjoyable, simple ride experience. 38. Autopia It’s a classic Tomorrowland attraction that is humorously old yet enjoyable. If you’re a Disney fan and actually want to tear this down, Walt would not be happy with you, because he loved this idea, and the idea of a simple ride that can get loud shouldn’t be necessarily shamed. 37. Goofy’s Sky School As us Disney World goers would call it, it is either a compact Barnstormer or a less/entertaining Primeval Whirl. Still a doable roller coaster that could make you scream. 36. Mad Tea Party The Tea Cups is one of those attractions that you will either do and never do again or one you will do and do it over and over again. It’s such a fun ride that brings thrill in an exhilarating way, and it’s easily a must-do at least once. 35. Chip n’ Dale GADGETCoaster For those not caught up on park action of 2023, the Disneyland renovation of ToonTown was pretty much the unanimous Disney theme park win of the year- this coaster is the only thing that received mixed reviews, but mostly, people approved of the facelift from Gadget Go-Coaster as it is Disneyland’s official barnstormer. 34. Pinocchio’s Daring Journey It has the same ride system of ‘Snow White’s Enchanted Wish,’ and it’s hard not to appreciate a 41 year old attraction that does tell the story with nice sets, a great illusion, and movie-taken audio. 33. Alice In Wonderland It’s unique to Disneyland and old with a very cramped show space, and the outdoor nature of the ride is debatably nice yet unreasonable. Still legendary. 32. Sailing Ship Columbia You’re sailing on the Rivers of America in a pirate ship. What more could you ask for? 31. Storybook Land Canal Boats This is peaceful and relaxing as you can explore those same scenes from Casey Jr. Circus Train closer. It’s an opening day park icon, and it’ll be an attraction one hopefully won’t forget. 30. Golden Zephyr The carnival games at Pixar Pier have already had a couple mentions on the lower side of the list, so it’s good to see a fun, classic thrill ride here finally deliver. 29. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea got a facelift for the first time ever back in 2007, and the reviews for this ride are mostly positive- the cramped ride space was always slightly controversial to a tee, but that doesn’t take away the fact that this new tech and iconic experience is a must do. 28. Silly Symphony Swings Marking the halfway point, I will say that this is a must do at Pixar Pier, as it was arguably the original land defining ride at California Adventure. Thrilling and fun and enjoyable for all. 27. Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes I’m from Florida, and I’ll happily admit that out of all of the rides at Disney World that I am jealous Disneyland has, this would be in my top five. The word most guests say about this ride is “underrated,” and they are absolutely right cause it is an experience that none of the riverboats can offer- quite literally down to Earth and unique in the Rivers of America. 26. Toy Story Midway Mania I often consider this the Buzz Lightyear ripoff, as it is often a cheap, stakeless competition that is in a small show building. However, the queue is great and the ride is enjoyable to most and a worldwide popularity, and of course, let’s not forget that Mr. Potato Head animatronic! This is arguably the best version of this ride in the world, and it is arguably a must do for the experience. 25. Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Most likely the darkest ride in the whole park, it’s an attraction hanging around just because of the fact that it is iconic and decent. It feels like a must do because of how unique it is, so its legacy alone propels it up to here. 24. Disneyland Railroad This is the most interactive railroad of its kind at the Disney theme parks, and the fact it is an opening day attraction that features pretty much the exact same script Walt wrote up just makes it ever the more special. 23. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters This is a far more entertaining Midway Mania, as there are stakes, and its set in an extended world from ‘Toy Story,’ and it’s flat out fun and a much more hyped up competition for the entire ride time. The Buzz Lightyear animatronic is also a must see in the queue. 22. Pixar Pal-A-Round If you try to argue that it is “just a Ferris wheel,” take into account the jaw dropping views you get of Disneyland and California Adventure, that is almost as equivalent to seeing a city skyline. 21. Peter Pan’s Flight An opening day attraction that had one of the most advanced ride systems in the world at the time, it is still a park icon that is amongst Fantasyland’s longest lines. 20. Roger Rabbit’s Car-Toon Spin For a slow moving ride, it is one of the wackiest, enjoyable rides at the park. It’s packed with great scenes, humorous illusions, and it is a Toontown highlight attraction that is a great way to get out of the heat and an attraction I am jealous of not being in Florida. 19. Star Tours: The Adventure Continues This simulator ride is fun and a trip down memory lane that George Lucas himself originally approved. There are various scenes mixed on a daily basis, guaranteeing a whole new ride almost every time. Also, the C-3PO animatronics are lifelike. Overall, this is a very well themed attraction. 18. Snow White’s Enchanted Wish Walt Disney Imagineering turned this ride from one of the park’s worst and outdated to arguably a Top 3 Fantasyland ride. The whole story is so much better and clear with fluent animatronics and great illusions all while keeping the right show scenes in. The renaming was also fantastic. Thank goodness this “maintenance closing” for two months was actually to completely reinvent the ride. 17. Soarin’ To my knowledge, Disney was the first company to find out how to do a simulator that wasn’t just seats in a box, and this was their invention. The ride in Cali I have not ridden, and since Disneyland and Disney World switched movies for a certain amount of time, I got to see Soarin’ Over California long after Soarin’ Around The World, and our ride system in Orlando is not programmed for the movements of the new movie. I hope you guys have it good in California then, and all I’ll say to those reading from the Golden State is that you should LOVE our film. This ride is technologically advanced and awesome, and it’s absolutely a top 20 entry currently. 16. Jungle Cruise It’s a legendary ride that features decent animatronics and funny, detailed scenes, and of course, I’ll happily take a journey as adventurous as this if I get to see the backside of water and hear the skipper humor. 15. Grizzly River Run I support Kali River Rapids much more than I should at Disney World, but I am jealous of how much better themed and generously wet this ride gets you. If you enter the park from the Grand Californian, it is dead ahead, and it’s a great attraction to welcome you to a park that gets awfully hot during the day. 14. Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run This ride features an outstanding queue with a must see Hondo Ohnaka animatronic, and then you get the pleasure of piloting the best simulator Disneyland has to offer. It’s an experience so many people have recommended, and since it’s an exact clone of the one at Disney World, I’ll happily say it is a must do for anyone. 13. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Even I’m shocked I’m putting this so far from first, and I think everyone knows that this is a great roller coaster with solid theming. Still, twelve rides are just better. 12. Space Mountain It’s a fast roller coaster staged in complete darkness that is guaranteed to get you to scream, and it has a well detailed queue as it serves as the staple and best attraction of Tomorrowland with good reason. With Splash Mountain closed and gone, this is the best ride with “mountain” in its name at the park. 11. Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure This got mixed reviews upon opening because it was your common shoot-and-score ride, Disneyland’s third of its kind, but can we all agree that this is easily the best one? The queue is fantastic, the story is great, the experience is tiring yet worth it, and all of the visual effects spread throughout the ride, from when you enter the pre-show room to walking down the exit tunnel, are very convincing. Everyone has eventually warmed up to it, and it’s a California Adventure favorite. 10. It’s A Small World I can’t let Walt’s favorite ride slip below the top ten, and the originality is evident in this timeless attraction. Before the song was deemed creepy and the dolls were laughed at, this was the happiest ride in the world and one of the best messages Disney ever constructed. I still appreciate how great it is, and when you have time, admire how huge the show building is and how nice it is to be outside. 9. Pirates of the Caribbean If Disney fans want to argue which state has the best version of this ride, California, you beat us Floridians by a mile- our queue may be the only thing that can rival and that’s it. A developed queue, two drops, a very generous ride time, great scenes and fluent animatronics all make for an enjoyable experience that is absolutely awesome. 8. Incredicoaster The truth is that Disney could have done better to have re-themed this ride. Screens and animatronics would have been nice compared to statues and stoned scenes. With that being said, the roller coaster itself is the fastest ride in the whole park and a guaranteed thriller, currently holding the DISNEY THEME PARK RECORD for most total pass outs on a single ride. Thrill alone propels this to its Top 10 position. 7. Matterhorn Bobsleds The best ride in Fantasyland for those waiting. Another ride I’m jealous of, this is a toned down Expedition Everest and I love it. It’s got great animatronics and phenomenal theming that makes this tobogganing ride enjoyable until the very end. People argue that this is a roller coaster, and if you are one to say that this is a coaster, then know that I think it’s the best one in the park. 6. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway The theming of ToonTown has always been great, and the recent overhaul of the land was the company highlight of 2023, and this ride was set to become the head attraction to the land, and although Disney World’s was earlier, this was better. The queue is phenomenal and extremely detailed, and the ride itself is just a celebration of these cartoons we all loved in our childhood. It’s unique and visually stunning, and animatronics and effects are outstanding. 5. The Haunted Mansion The originality of a ride can really carry it, and while this is a tracked dark ride boasted as a haunted house, it is one of the best experiences you will have at the park. The queue is themed to perfection, the pre-show is iconic, the vehicle loading platform is even well decorated! And the whole ride is just a fun time with various animatronics, visual effects, and jaw-dropping scenes that gets you excited for and wanting more. I rode this at Disneyland, and it’s easily one of my favorite rides from my time at the park. 4. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! I’ll say this confidentally- if this was still Tower of Terror, it would be much lower. The re-theming on this ride before Avengers Campus even came to be was genius- from a great queue and pre show, to a funny and thrilling ride experience, and an elite soundtrack, touches of great animatronics and a well-written ride script are just pompous touches. What a ride and a California Adventure definer. 3. Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye When this opened, it was the best ride in the entire world and had a debut so large there was a red carpet event. After many operating years, it became a shell of what it once was, and although pleas for a refurbishment were begged, Bob Chapek didn’t listen. TWO WEEKS after Iger was put back in charge, Indiana Jones closed for a three month refurbishment, and while it still isn’t perfect, everything was improved! This ride has an interactive queue that is well detailed, and to sum it up, this attraction has visual and physical effects for days. Technology for this ride so advanced back in the day it had never been constructed nor detailed, and a storyline so grand was never attempted. It still has lines going out the entrance, and I can’t wait for Animal Kingdom to get their own (as revealed by Disney). Easily our first podium spot. 2. Radiator Springs Racers In a documentary, Bob Iger revealed Cars Land as basically his idea to completely turn California Adventure around after Eisner’s mishandling of the park in his final year in charge, and this attraction he oversaw was a masterpiece that completely integrated you into the movie itself. The animatronics design seemed complex, but they’re phenomenally fluent and move like the film animation. The show scenes are fantastic, and above all, the race at the end is just a downright thrill. This was a big W for Disney, and this unique attraction is a park highlight. 1. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance This ride is the most technologically advanced, expensive, and environment-integrating ride in the whole park. You get two simulators and a trackless vehicle with life-like animatronics and outstandingly detailed show scenes around every corner, and that’s just in one ride! And the attraction already holds the record for most times broken down in a single year in Disneyland history because of how complex the engineering is (the number is 1,084 times!) It is by far the coolest attraction anyone could ever experience at Disneyland, and saying it is a must do is an understatement beyond comparison. Tell me whether you agree or disagree with my takes below! Disney World’s ranking will be out tomorrow!
