As I stand in the railcar I cannot help but think what the Jews had to go through. Starving bodies shoved into the car as though they are animals. A shaft of light breaks through the dusty darkness of the car itself.
I can hear the screaming babies, the crying children, the mothers trying to calm them down, the fathers shouting at everyone. Then the door slams shut, imprisoning them in a wood-and-metal cage in the suffocating heat of the German summer or the frigid Polish winters. The silence would be unbearable....just as it is now. It would have suddenly dawned on them that they were....undesirable. Undesirable by not only the Germans
